Computer science and information technology al Affiliation) Executive summary The objective of the study and the report is to bring out the satisfaction level of employees following the recent application that have been used in the different departments of the organization.. The report also comes with the decision on installing a new considering financial appropriation or upgrading the current one that is used with the employees (Duncan, 2002). The increase in productivity will also be identified and also lead to the improvement of It solutions which intern increasing the profitable income. The six sections of the report includes the introduction to the report, the background information involving the objectives. The second section will involve discussions on the problems and the questions that were posted to the respondents. The third section brings out the literature view on the research problem (Duncan, 2002). The literature view aims in the accumulation of secondary data to enable the draw of conclusion about the action that can be taken next. The next chapter focuses on research methodology used in the research. The next chapter is on the analysis of the data through the chosen methodology. The chapter helps in the drawing of final conclusion. 1. Introduction 1.1 Abstract The research focuses on Emirates airlines which offers worldwide airport services and also handle ground IT solutions. The department in the airline that concerns the IT sector is Emirates Group-Information Technology which makes the objective of delivering qualified services and product with the best return on investment. The IT department uses an application that is able to keep track of the projects occurring within the company (Duncan, 2002). The application also keeps track of the project and the person that is responsible for the tasks that are related to it. The application however have come with verbal complains from the employees that have limit access to it and also from those that have all the access to it (Duncan, 2002). The people who have full access to it are the managers to find out the problems and find out solutions to them to increase the productivity. 1.2 Objectives The research has come out with objectives to be achieved. The research is intended to find out the level of satisfaction of employees and the management with the current application tool. The research also intended to find out the reasons behind the likes and dislikes of the current application tool by the employees. Another objective of the research is to improve the current application. Other than the mentioned objectives, the research also was intended to find about the similar services and goods that are in the market that offers the similar goods considering the competition and also their profits. The study also comes with the comparison of the cos effectiveness when the organization was to implement the use of a new application (Duncan, 2002). The success and failure of the project in the organization were also researched to determine whether they were brought about by the use of the application. The research was carried out to conclude as to whether the application can be implemented to be used in other sectors of the organization including human resource and finance and accounting. 1.3 Background information The organization Emirates group is the largest in Middle East and provides the services of airport, ground handling, cargo and also information technology solutions. The main objectives of the group is not on the quantity but the quality of the services. They have believed strong foundation of business ethics in the past years as one of the elements that builds their success. The group also object to maximize profits with the use of the few resources focusing on the reduction of wastages to also help in preserving the environment. 1.4 Limitations and assumptions The purpose of the research made several assumptions including the employees having a background and also the knowledge about the use of the current application tool. The research also assumes employee satisfaction and proactivity will increase the productivity in the organization and thus increase profit. Time constraints are also assumed by the research to meet their objectives. Another consumption that is made by the research is that the sample size that is taken to carry out the research may be insufficient for the gaining of the information that reputes the current procedures within the organization. 2. Current system overview IPlan application currently has brought some projects adjustment. This has come about in the projects without the consideration of time and the sizes that are allocated for each of the tasks to be performed. They consider the organization’s guidelines and adjustments in the breaking down of the subtasks that is considered in all the projects that are done (Duncan, 2002). The breaking down results in the incurring of more cost before the completion of the tasks. The subordinate that is responsible for the dong the tasks will make them enter into incorrect information that are attained in relation to time that is spent to complete the tasks. This leads to the inaccuracy as well also the investment of additional costs into the project due to the tasks. 3. Research methods 3.1 Method adopted The method that was adopted was deciding on the appropriate questionnaires and the questions that are used to come up with the desired outcomes. The nature of statistics and the information that is needed in the success of the research and in the analysis of the statistics using the different approaches. The method was selected to carry to effective research in order to get the data that is accurate and also relevant information that is needed for future analysis. The primary data of the research was collected through designing of a relevant questionnaires for employees. Different statistical tools will be used in the interpretation of the data that are got from the feedback to come up with conclusion that are sensible (Duncan, 2002). Graphical presentation are used to represent the feedback to come up with the tendencies of responses. The subordinate data in the study is useful in the answering of questions to whether the current study carried out is useful and also the comparison of validity and reliability. Literature view in the research serves the basis of the secondary data. This is due to the various information that was collected from websites and articles. 4. Data gathering and analysis 4.1 Questionnaire The questionnaire was given in two sets whereby the 25 were required to be filled with the developers, testers or programmers. 4.2 Analysis using excel The responses that are got from the questionnaires are entered into excel sheets together with the graphs from there depiction. (Duncan, 2002). Data in each table represent the number of answers for each question that is in the questionnaire and they are also combined with relevant charts that draws connections to some of the questions that are asked. 5. Analysis of the results and their presentation 5.1 Numerical research analysis The questionnaire was designed to cover all the aspects that would make the research of high quality and interpreting the responses provided by the workers. The questions that were posted to the developers, testers or programmers were to find out their contentment with the current application tool (Duncan, 2002). The questions were designed in away such that the responses that would be got from them would make one to know the knowledge that the people have on the application that they are using. The responses will also bring out the research and the developments that had been done before to the application that they use. 5.1.1 Responses in the departments For proper and accurate results. Different departments were sampled to get the correct feedback. In the collection using the questionnaires, 28 percent was from the engineering, internal IT and the security team. This brought about seven respondents from the department. Another 28 percent was from the internal information technology department, 24 percent from the cargo department which are concerned with the development of software to be used in the handling of ground services. There are also some departments in the organization which do not use the tool. This makes them not being fit to fill the survey. 5.1.2 Respondent’s job titles The graphical presentation that was used in the representation depicts the job titles that the respondents have and their roles in the organization. The majority that responded to the questioners were from software engineering department (Duncan, 2002). Their role is the development of software that cater for particular departments in the organization. The software engineers are the ones that are responsible for deadlines and also delegation of programming tasks. These are the employees that are outsourced to provide the technical services on contract basis depending on the duration of the contract. 5.1.3 Respondent’s year of employment The years of respondents was presented on a pie chart with majority of them having the range of 1 to 5 years in the current job roles. Only 12% of the respondents had an experience of 12 months or less with 28% having high experience of more than 5 years. 5.1. 4 Respondent’s satisfaction with the tool The pie chart used to represent the data on the dislikes and the likes indicates many w were happy and content with the current application tool and tis constitutes to 64 percent of the respondents. The few that remained, 36% were not happy with the tool and recommended to have a different tool introduced or upgrade done to the current one. The satisfaction level can be analyzed using the different departments where is was found out that most likes are from the Internal-IT (IIT) department and the Engineering, Internal It and the safety and security department. The people who were mostly happy with the current tool that was used were those that were software engineer’s senior software engineers, IT-specialists and the senior technical engineer. 5.1.5 Respondent’s feedback to their reason of likes and dislikes Following the dislikes and likes by the respondents, it was found out that a respondent had two or more reason for the question. The main reason to the like of the application was due to the fact that the application was recording of all work that was done and there was probability of future reference (Duncan, 2002). The response was majorly by the engineers with 1 to 5 years of experience or with 5 years and above experience. The view of the tasks by the respondents was also found out to make them like the application. The like though varied through consultants and software engineers. The application was also disliked due to several reasons. The dislikes was due to the fact that it doesn’t allow the recording of annual holidays, sick leave or lunch breaks. The reason was given much by those that are in the cargo department. Another dislike was by employees with the experience of 1-5 years or with 5 years and above of experience due to the reason that the use of the application involved manual entry of the statistics about the work they perform daily and most prefer to have it as an entry on a monthly. 5.1.6 Respondent’s feedback to their knowledge about the application The respondents that were found to be much aware of the application were male software engineers and senior software engineers. The ones that had proper knowledge of the application also were those in the IT, cargo, Safety and Security departments having an experience ranging from 1-5 years or 5 years and above. The ones with the knowledge also were found to be of those that had Indian origin. 5.1.7 Respondent’s feedback the necessity and comfort of IPlan The feedback was recorded in graphical representation it shows that the majority of the employees are comfortable and feel that the tool is necessary to use. The majority that were satisfied take 40% of all the respondents. The comfort of the use was mainly by software engineers or senior software engineers. The comfort also came from departments such as IT and also the cargo department. Some also were uncomfortable and thought that the application was a bit unnecessary. The departments that thought the application was not necessary were consultants, software engineers and business analysts. 5.1.8 Respondent’s response on filling tasks on a daily or weekly basis The response on the question was done to improve the accuracy of the research. The need for the weekly and daily basis is done to give the duty of all the employees and the works that they have done (Duncan, 2002). The respondents thought that in daily basis will enable the provision of accurate information. The provision of the information will bring out the thought on the necessity and whether the respondents think they are comfortable. 5.8.9 Respondent’s feedback on recording overtime into the tool The recording of overtime was viewed with several reactions. Majority of the respondents responded that they are more comfortable with the recording, most of which are software engineers and consultants. Respondent’s thoughts to the improvement of the application Most of the people in the organization feel that there should not be on the improvement. The majority of hose from the department of software engineering, external customer management and also internal IT feel that the application should be upgraded and they give several reasons behind their thought on the improvement. Others from other departments also think that there should be no improvement. Software engineers, senior technical engineers and consultants are the ones that support against the improvement. The refusal on the improvement also come from the departments of engineering, internal IT and those that work in the airport operations. 5.1.10 Respondent’s feedback on similar tools Similar tools that can substitute the application are not identified. Most of the employees haven’t come across a similar tool that can be used as the iPlan. Those that have not come across the similarity makes 83% of those that responded. This makes only a few with the come across case. 6. Findings and reccomendations The key findings indicate that majority were happy with the current application tool. They constitute 64% while those that are not satisfied are 36%. The research also found out the the main reason for the like is that it helps them follow of the previous tasks and also the future tasks to be done. The research also brought out the fact that most are aware of the application with only 40% feeling happy and comfortable about the application. Most of the people enter on the task information on weekly basis with majority of the respondents working overtime to have additional efforts recorgnized through the system. Another major finding is that majority of those that responded had no knowledge about other application that worked the same and it was only about two respondents with the clue. 7. Conclusion Challenges in the use of the application was looked on and the reasons that comes with the likes and the dislikes. Since one of the missions of EGIT is to deliver quality services, the adoption of the use of the application will enable the organization to achieve its objectives. The profits and the productivity of the organization will also be increased with the use of the application. The application tool is recommended. Reference Duncan, T. (2002).
