At present Mr. Martin Brotman is the Managing Director cum President of these institutions. The top management of these hospitals consists of other five members also. Population served: Being a not-for-profit health system, the CPMC serves tens of thousands of patients and their families in cities and towns of Northern California. The doctors, health care service providers and hospitals of this institution connect resources and allocate know-how to improve the health care quality of the population over here. Accreditation received: For the services rendered by it, the Leapfrog group has recognized it as one of the top hospital in the country for safety and quality in the year 2010. The US News and World Report accepted the CPMC as one of the best hospitals that treat gastrointestinal disorders in the year 2008. In 2007, four neurosurgeons in CPMC received the Physician Recognition Award from the National Committee for Quality Assurance. In the same year, the hospital was also accredited with VHA West Coast Performance along with other five hospitals. In 2006, the Joint Commission certified CPMC as a Primary Stroke Centre for the commitment to excellence in stroke management. In the very same year it also received the recognitions like Accreditation by Society of Chest Pain Centers and United Health Premium Cardiac Specialty Designation. Users of health information Doctors and nurses: Each year the doctors and nurses of this institution learn more about what the patients expect from them. This also helps to teach the coming generation about the health care facilities provided by CPMC. Administrators: Administrators are informed about the changes taken place in the field of health care so that decisions can be taken in order to keep up to date with the changes. Support services: Support services use health information whenever they are called for assistance by any third party or the patient himself. External users: The health information will be helpful to outsiders in knowing how their health will be protected. Each time they visit a doctor, the hospital records it. This record contains a description of the symptoms, examination and test results of the visitor. So, they can plan the future plan accordingly. Information system used CPMC uses an information system in perinatal care. This information system was developed to investigate into analysis of relationship between process and outcome and also for quality assurance purpose. Function and importance: This is a clinical information system which is user friendly and connected with other information systems. This information system provides central station viewing of multiple fetal strips or a full-screen view for diagnostic purposes. It is helpful in giving flexible and centralized alerts for fetal and maternal monitors. The recall option helps to view patient’s entire fetal strip – the user has the capability to review multiple fetal strips from the previous 4 days. The Archive Option in it stores fetal strips and data permanently, meeting national and international requirements. Data is retrievable three ways, by patient name or ID number or delivery date. The vendors of the hardware and software give the hospital assistance in maintaining it and also updating it in accordance with the requirements. Strengths: This system provides timely, accurate, scientific, reliable and permanent information in its operations and to the administrators in taking decisions and generating reports. Information communication is based on relevancy with respect to diverse needs of the management. Moreover, its plays a significant role in obtaining a competitive advantage for the hospital even though it is not profit oriented. Weakness: the quality of the information system’s operation depends on the quality of input. The above mentioned system does not have requisite flexibility to quickly update itself with the changing needs of time, especially in this fast changing world. It is not successful in those areas where secrecy is maintained in disseminating information to employees. Thus to brief, the CPMC has got a clinical information system which helps the administrators, management and physicians to take scientific decisions and carry on operations which are theoretically easy and practically difficult. As far as possible it is a fair system and works in an integrated manner. As the operations of the system depend on the input given, the system administrators must be careful that they are giving ample and valid input to it. In addition, management must see that steps are taken to update the system with the change in the environment where it is located. The system developed must be effective and the management decision must be reviewed and appraised continually. Works Cited California Pacific Medical Center. Official Website. 06 Aug 2011 Read More
