According to Waters (2009), non profit organizations can significantly use Facebook and other similar social networking sites to advance their programs and missions. Although possessing a Facebook profile does not necessarily result in an influx of participation, it significantly increases the awareness and improves the relationship between the organization and its stakeholders. This presentation focuses on the various ways through which non profit organizations can effectively use Facebook for their professional communications.
I work with a local non profit organization that seeks to help low income families particularly with children to obtain household necessities and one of our primary goals is to use Facebook as a tool for our organizational communication in order to streamline the functions of their management, educate other people about their activities and programs and interact with volunteers. Through these interactions, our organization can be able to establish closer relationships with all our stakeholders.
There are a significant number of Facebook applications that make it particularly an indispensable tool for professional communications for both non profit agencies and small businesses.
