policing Policing is one of the roles in the criminal justice system and aims at ensuring law and order in the society. The United s lacksa centralized policing system and this paper discusses history of the state policing in the nation, offers an example of state policing, and explains application of state policing in law enforcement. History of state policing in the United StatesPolicing in the United States has undergone transitions in history. It was influenced by the policing system in the ancient United Kingdom, by Robert Peel.

The nation’s initial policing system consisted of locally organized people that lacked necessary organization for effective policing. Needs such as slave trade and use of slaves established need for policing to initiate transitions in policing that politics widely influenced. These also initiated reforms that aimed at ensuring professionalism in the police force (SAGE, n.d.). Existence of a decentralized policing system is however traced to the colonial period, 1600- 1840. Changes in social and economic factors together with corruption that existed among politicians and in the localized police led to transitions in the political era, 1840-1930 (Vodde, 2009).

This period experienced establishment of state police departments such as in Pennsylvania and creations in other states (Sarre, Das, & Albrecht, 2005). The reform era then followed, with changes at local levels until the 1980s when community policing emerged and enhanced localization (Vodde, 2009). Example of state policing and application of state policing in law enforcementThe Pennsylvania police agency is an example of state policing. State policing is used in law enforcement through establishment of state police agency and mandating the agency o enforce law, ensure order, and investigate crimes (Sarre, Das, & Albrecht, 2005).
