The main objective of this report is to analyze the role of the media in Australia regarding justice and crime issues related to the indigenous community. This will be through an analysis of media articles and two theoretical perspectives.

Racism in Australia commonly occurs in neighborhoods, workplaces, and shopping centers. There is a need for Australians to consider embracing different aspects that could enhance patriotism within society. The aspect of egalitarianism that Australians often embrace should be used as an instrument of curbing racism and embracing high levels of patriotism.

There have been protests in Australia demanding to place investigations into the death of Julieta Dhu and an end to the high death rate of indigenous members of the Australian population in custody. Pressure has been mounted on the Western Australian Government to provide answers that explain the reason for the high level of discrimination and high death rate of the indigenous members of the Australian society. There is a need for the Australian government to ensure that its corrective services are human such that they protect the lives of those in custody and promote their wellbeing.

Peter Lloyd, the coroner of the Northern Territory argues that the new powers given to the police that allows them to arrest are likely to result in more aboriginal deaths in custody. The new laws, the paperless arrest powers, give the police the authority to arrest citizens for minor offenses. The assumptions emanate from the increasing number of deaths that have continued to occur in police custody among the aboriginals. It is important that the laws are repealed and police regulated to ensure that they are effective in maintaining law and order.

Tony Abbot, The Prime Minister of Australia, there is a need for the government to begin developing a unified process that would involve the indigenous population in Australia and the wider community talking. This will involve eliminating all the discriminatory aspects while embracing those aspects that would ensure that every citizen is engaged in a process of developing the nation. This will provide them with an opportunity of talking through the social, political, cultural, and economic aspects that affect the country.
