The Reluctant Fundamentalist is a novel written by Mohsin Hamid, a Pakistani novelist, which centers on the 9/11 bombing of the World Trade Center (WTC) in America. The destruction of the WTC divides the narrative into the pre-9/11 period and the post-9/11 period. The novel is based on the narration by Mr. Changez to an American guest of his fascinating life story. Before 9/11, globalization became a symbol of economic prosperity across the globe. However, the narrative shows how the 9/11 bombing led to cracks and fissures in the post-9/11 scenario.

The novel rightly expresses how the event resuscitated the global divide based on language, race, and culture (Jarandikar & Jarandikar 2014, 56).Australian Security Industry Association Limited (2016). Infiltration of organized crime into lawful occupations and industries. Retrieved October 14, 2016, from https://www.asial.com.au/news/infiltration-of-organised-crime-into-lawful-occupations-and-industriesThe article focuses on the findings of the Victorian Law Reform Commission that lawful occupations and industries are facilitating the operations of criminal organizations and organized crime.

The article recognizes the fact that sometimes professionals assist in organized crime with or without their knowledge. The article, therefore, recommends that the best way to ensure that lawful industries do not end up facilitating organized crime is by introducing regulatory regimes in each industry. From this article, I have learned that the law plays an important part in issues of security. The law provides the framework or mechanism that is to be implemented to fight security threats.Anderson, F. (2016). The cybersecurity strategy: Australia can attack as well as defend.

The article also explains how companies and government agencies have been affected by cyber-attacks and have in the past failed to disclose such attacks while, in other situations, there have been disclosures of such attacks.

This article has taught me that disclosure is an important aspect of security. Government agencies and other public institutions should disclose important security details about their ability to defend and launch attacks as a way of assuring citizens of it's their ability to protect them.Australian Security Industry Association Limited (2016). Securing airports and seaports against serious or organized crime. Retrieved October 14, 2016, from: https://www.asial.com.au/news/securing-airports-and-seaports-against-serious-or-organised-crimeThe article discusses the amendment of the laws governing the security of airports and seaports to introduce new provisions to tighten the security of airports and seaports in Australia.

The changes in the laws are meant to restrict access to airports and seaports by persons with organized crime convictions. I have learned that changes in security measures must be accompanied by changes in the law to ensure that the measures undertaken by government agencies are justified by law. This ensures that the government does not undertake arbitrary actions in an attempt to protect its citizens from security threats.
