Public perception and scientific studies have documented how this population has attracted the attention and of various scholars and experts in law enforcement. What are some of the ramifications that can impact the psychic of the community and public perception on the acts in which these criminals conduct their predatory actions? The perceptions of the public can be largely shaped up by how sexual offenders make use of crime-switching and specialization tactics. This is because they believe they should not be caught and brought to justice. The role of the people at large is to understand how they can find a way through which these sexual offenders are taken to task. To begin with, it is always a good omen for the society if all its inmates know exactly what is required of them and how they must manifest their truest selves towards combating any form of offense, be it sexual or physical one. The extent of the offense would subside quickly if such actions are taken on a proactive basis and hence the sexual offenders will get the idea that the society is well aware of their upcoming tactics. Some of the ramifications that have impacted the psychic of the community have been in the form of shelving their own selves since there is too much terror available within the terrains of the society. Also the people shall understand that if these sexual offenders are allowed to go on a rampage, they might destruct the basis of sanity, which indeed is a genuine concern if seen within the relevant thick of things. Their predatory actions need to be judged in advance so that any anomalies that might take place in the future are properly documented. The public perception matters a great deal and hence it should be accorded the significance that it richly deserves. 2. In compare some; men and women have different motives in the commitment of murder. While society normally favors the irrational behaviors of murders committed by men, the acceptance of women committing murder causes public perception to rationalize the reason for this crime. The modern day media influence as far as murder is concerned remains largely a male oriented commitment. If females go about murdering people, it is due to the fact that they have either been subjected to harsh treatment that they have eventually resorted or perhaps they are not within their normal selves. The role of the media remains strangely unique for both the genders. Our thoughts come about as a direct result of what the media feeds us, day in and day out. It is because of the media influence that both men and women have started to see murder in a completely new light. When men commit to such an insane behavior, they are perhaps not dealt with too harshly. However, this is not the case when females are involved in it. The male and female acts of murder shed light on the premise of understanding that murder in itself is a heinous and it really does not matter who commits the crime, as long as it is being committed, and that too for all the wrong reasons. Now the role of the media should be such that they must expose the killer rather than revealing the gender basis, which is not such an important aspect if seen within the relevant settings. The society must also understand that they ought to stop sending favorable signals to the men when they commit a murder while females must also be treated in an equal manner because the gravity of the issue is immense, all said and done. 3. Women who commit acts of sexual offending are followed by an extreme amount of media coverage. The chapter makes the analogy of a possible different standard “in the eyes of the law,” when women are accused of engaging in acts of sexual offense and abuse. How can our society find “common ground,” and view these actions on equal basis? (Plugge and Douglas, 2008) Our society does not seem to find a common ground as far as the women sexual offenders are concerned. They subject these women to harsh treatment because it is their view that these women must not get into such acts in the first place. What they seem to forget is the fact that these women must have had some issues domestically which would ask of them to do these offenses. Also the fact that the society has been partial towards women makes the point even more susceptible. Why the media falls into such domains is largely because of one’s own agenda that an inmate of the society has. This means that the women sexual offenders are perceived as individuals who have ransacked the society in more ways than one. It has also implied for an understanding that they are wrong from the outset of such discussions disregarding what they are doing for the sake of their own families and loved ones during this while. There must be a line drawn to make sure that the women sexual offenders are not treated any differently than the male sexual ones because both of them are offending the morals of the society at the end of the day, and hence need to be treated in much the same way. In the eyes of the law, both are being seen equally and there is hence no reason why the media should present them any differently. This essentially is a much significant debate which should be dealt with in a proper manner. 4. Gang activities have plagued our societies since the beginning of organized, civilized, and industrial communities. This form of intrusion is becoming more advanced in their methodology of inflicting fear and violence in the citizens of our communities. Can law enforcement or governmental assets create an atmosphere of deterrence when it comes to reducing gang violence? What strategies can be implemented to reduce these gangs access to illegal weapons? The law enforcement and governmental assets can certainly come up with measures to combat these gangs from entering our societies. This can only be done when there are concerted efforts made by the elders of the society who believe in bringing sanity within its folds. This shall mean that the gangs are not allowed to form up, to begin with. If by chance they form up, then there must be no stone left unturned to make sure that these gangs are dealt with in the strictest manner possible. Since the community is the biggest sufferer under normal circumstances, it would be a good omen if these gangs are banned so that the gang members know that they shall be left on their own once they become a part of a gang or an outfit that is socially and politically considered incorrect. The people will start realizing their responsibilities and report to the local law enforcement agencies and the government so that the insanity that spells out from the realms of the gangs are properly dealt with. Similarly, the strategies that can be used to reduce these gangs having access to illegal weapons must be in the form of realizing where the weapons are actually being transported and who is running them in the first place. All weapons should be sold to individuals who have valid licenses on them and hence the question of legality would not even arise. Moreover, the gang activities would get curtailed if there is no weapon available to them at all. This can only be done once the law enforcement agencies ask the government to have as stringent rules as possible so that the gangs do not possess any weapons – be them legal or illegal. 5. Sex offenders have utilized the advances of modern technology in order to allow them to gain access to our children. The laws of Internetinvasiveness’ can be challenging in the interpretation and enforcement. How can we implement comprehensive policies and procedures that will allow law enforcement to identify, apprehend, and convict these criminals? Sex offenders have made use of the Internet to get hold of our children which is indeed an alarming situation to begin with. This will set the ball rolling in the right direction and take care of the looming issues which can be best exploited by the sexual offenders in this day and age. This is why the sexual offenders are bringing much disrepute and discord within the society as they keep coming up with nastier tactics and tricks to haunt the children and their parents. Hence in all entirety, it would be a good omen to adopt policies and enact strategies which would monitor the usage of the Internet through IP detection measures as well as screening of contacts amongst people at large, on the Internet. 6. According to the text, more than half of the inmates in U.S. jails and prisons suffer from some sort of a mental illness. These illnesses can come in the form of manic or depressive symptoms, sociopathic, psychopathic, and other forms of psychotic symptoms. Current statistics are revealing that the numbers of individuals who are diagnosed with a mental illness are finding their way into prison via a mental treatment facility. What are some preventive measures that can be implemented in our current justice system, schools, or communities to identify these symptoms and find treatable solutions before prison becomes the only alternative? (Bickle, 2009) The preventive measures that can be made use of within the society comprise of a correctional measure more than bringing distress to the inmates of the society. The prison system should have more room for asking people to get treated in a quantifiable manner rather than becoming socially and morally sick. The prison should not serve as a route towards a mental treatment facility. This is something that can shake the basis of the prisons within the United States. Sadly, it has happened due to a number of wrong reasons, most significantly owing to the fact that the prisoners are treated very shabbily. No one is there to look after them and they are cut off from the rest of the world. They are made to do things which they have never done all their lives and this puts the prisoners in a social and mental agony, so much so that they end up as patients in a mental treatment facility.
