The Clan Records The Korean people were suffering under the Japanese rule. The could not join the military because of his height. Later he was called for labor service. The Japanese military used to harass the Korean workers. Abuse, heavy work, and torture characterized this work. At that time, China was in war and Korean capital was tense. However, the author was able to secure a descent job in the office. Discrimination was common in the streets. The Koreans were treated like slaves with words such as Yobo being used to mean slaves.

Numerous attempts by the Koreans to have equal rights failed several times despite there being any differences between them and the Japanese. Japanese viewed themselves as strong and they believed that their names were strong because they could enable them to get access to different services. As a result, wealthy Koreans adopted Japanese names as a way of showing their superiority in the society. The eldest members of the family were required to change their names in order for the rest of the members to be allowed by the authority to change theirs.

Clan was a very important structure that was used by the Japanese to rule the Koreans. However, they ensured that they widened the difference between the poor and the rich. The clan records were very significant. However, despite relentless effort by the Japanese to force the young children to be loyal to their country, the older generation ensured that the clan was united and focused towards promoting Korean values. However, the failure by the clan elder to denounce his name made the descendants to suffer in the hands of the Japanese.
