As a result, wealthy Koreans adopted Japanese names as a way of showing their superiority in the society. The eldest members of the family were required to change their names in order for the rest of the members to be allowed by the authority to change theirs.

Clan was a very important structure that was used by the Japanese to rule the Koreans. However, they ensured that they widened the difference between the poor and the rich. The clan records were very significant. However, despite relentless effort by the Japanese to force the young children to be loyal to their country, the older generation ensured that the clan was united and focused towards promoting Korean values. However, the failure by the clan elder to denounce his name made the descendants to suffer in the hands of the Japanese.
