Romeo and Juliet In APA Format There is a lot that is being said about parents in Romeo and Juliet; a lot can be learned by parents by reading the tragedy. This paper will shed light upon what Shakespeare says about parents in Romeo and Juliet. The role of parents and surrogates is of extreme importance in the tragedy and must be studied very closely. The biological parents are supposed to take utmost care of their children but ironically it does not happen in Romeo and Juliet. The biological parents of Romeo and Juliet do not understand their relationship and as a result of which they do not approve of it which leads to several conflicts in the tragedy, the same also makes the tragedy more interesting.

The first four acts build-up tension in the tragedy. The surrogate parents or the substitute parents of Romeo and Juliet are much different from their biological parents and they understand and support the relationship of Romeo and Juliet, this is really ironic in the tragedy. Friar Laurence and the nurse are the surrogate parents of Romeo and Juliet but even their support does not help Romeo and Juliet much in the tragedy as the couple take an extreme step and decide to commit suicide in the tragedy.

The same could not have been avoided because a tragedy involves a lot of pain and suffering, Romeo and Juliet both suffered from extreme pain because the other important characters in the tragedy just did not approve of their relationship this is why they committed suicide. “The Montagues and Capulets are two rivalry families. They are involved in a family feud that goes back years before any of the members were born. Yet the feud still continues due to the fact that neither family is ready to forgive and forget the past.

Even the townspeople are involved because the families do not keep the feud in the privacy of their own home but have been seen fighting in the public streets and displaying violence.” (Romeo and Juliet)To conclude it is very fair to say that the two families never shared a great relationship and the biological parents of both Romeo and Juliet were never on friendly terms, there was always some sort of tension between them and as a result of which several feuds also took place and this made their relationship even worse.

It also affected the lives of Romeo and Juliet, even though they had support from their surrogate parents that support was anything but enough. They committed suicide because everything went against them. It is important to know that Shakespeare talks about forgetting the personal differences that parents have when it comes to the happiness of their children but the biological parents of Romeo and Juliet failed to do so and as a result of which the two main characters in the tragedy committed suicide and the parents failed miserably in accomplishing what they had always wanted.
