Gabriel Garcia, the author in “A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings” unites the natural with the supernatural in an unpredicted yet exciting way that leave the readers question what they would respond if confronted with similar situation. The author blends the most mundane and unsightly parts of life- the rainy days, miraculous angel who regains strength and flies away, the selfish crowd. In this, he efficiently uses a very creative tone as a unique style to develop a story that deeply carries elements existing in our everyday lives and still surpass it.

His story undeniably invites us through his real and vivid occurrences in the book, to look a little closer at the events as it would happen in our lives and assess how we responds to the normal things that do occur and the not-quite-normal situation that could ultimately influence our lives positively if we have clear and right mindset. Marquez, with his mastery use of magical realism, captures natural tendencies of human kind and lace it with unique supernatural elements that create scenes which make the readers desire to go over the story again.

For instance, he is represented too “man” to a point Father Gonzaga cannot fail to recognize he is “much too human.” He brings out everything about him in a complete opposite way of everything we ever imagine of the angelic and holy angels in the bible. But paying a keener look, vague characters of an angel can be glimpsed, such as his extraordinary and unending patience. It is true, he has few options here, but he just goes through the mistreatment in a way human would not– , pushed around, being caged with smelly chickens, poked and prodded (Marilyn. pp. 12).

Not at any instance does he fight back. He surprisingly waits and endures it all. This, is nothing close to human, it is arguably a sign of the angel’s supernatural characters. Perhaps, despite of our human
