JetBlue Airlines JetBlue Airlines is a low fare airline that experienced tremendous growth during the 21st century. The company was founded in 1998.Its founder is David Neeleman. JetBlue Airlines has been in business for 14 years. The company operates in the United States and internationally. “As of December 31, 2011, we served 70 destinations in 22 states, Puerto Rico, Mexico and 12 countries in the Caribbean and Latin America” (Jetblue). One of the strategies utilized by the company to save money and keep the overhead of the firm low is the utilization of a centralized strategy.

By focusing only on 22 states the firm targets the most profitable locations with the most transited air routes. In 2011 JetBlue Airlines had a total of 700 daily flights. The firm is the 6th largest passenger carrier in the United States. The corporate headquarters of the company are located at 118-29 Queens Boulevard, Forest Hills, New York 11375. The company’s mission statement is to bring humanity back to travel. The brand of the firm is recognized worldwide as a consequence of the company’s effective marketing strategies.

The company has tremendous customer awareness in both the United States and the Caribbean. The organization has 14,000 employees. The company’s expansion plan in 2011 included adding six new Latin cities as destinations. The firm has negotiated a number of partnerships for marketing, customer service, and to increase sales. The company stresses the importance of providing high-quality customer service through a productive and engaged workforce that helps the firm keep costs low and achieve its financial goals (Jetblue).

The total sales of the organization in fiscal year 2011 were $4,504 million and its net income was $86 million. The company cares a lot about its community. Last year the firm supported 700 different non-profit organizations in destinations throughout the Americas (Jetblue). The employees of the company help the community through voluntarism. JetBlue believes in the importance of the green movement. The company seeks to comply and go above current environmental regulations. In all its operations the company seeks to find new ways to reduce carbon footprint.

The organization also has a successful recycling program. Southwest Airlines Southwest Airlines was founded by Rolling King and Herb Kelleher. The company has been operating as a business entity for 39 years. The company since its inception focused on providing customers with affordable air travel, great customer service, and timely delivery of the service. “The mission of Southwest Airlines is dedication to the highest quality of Customer Service delivered with a sense of warmth, friendliness, individual pride, and Company Spirit” (Southwest).

The current president of the company is Colleen Barrett. In 2011 the company was named one of the top 50 places to work for by Glassdoor. The organization is committed to providing the best customer service in the airline industry. The employees of the company are well trained professionals. Southwest Airlines has over 37,000 employees. Southwest flies to 73 cities covering 38 states. Southwest performs 3,800 flights daily. The corporate headquarters of the firm is located in 2702 Love Field Drive, Dallas Texas.

Gary Kelly is the current CEO of the company. The year 2011 marked the 39th consecutive year of profitability for the company (Southwest). The stocks of the company are traded in the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol LUV. The company has paid dividends to its stockholders every consecutive quarter since 1976. In fiscal year 2011 Southwest Airlines generated total sales of $15.7 billion. Its net income during 2011 was $178 million. The fleet of planes of the company as of March 2012 consisted of 558 Boeing 737 Jets.

The average life of each plane is approximately 12 years. One of the operating strategies of the company is to perform lots of flights that have short flight duration. The average flight of the company had a length of 679 miles with flight duration of one hour and 58 minutes (Southwest). The top three cities the airline serves are Chicago, Las Vegas, and Baltimore.
