?Project brief To serve our better while keeping up with the emerging trends in the dynamic transport industry so as to stay ahead of our competitors, it is necessary to implement an employee training program that will ensure that all our employees are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively and efficiently discharge their duties. Mission The mission of this project is to develop a training curriculum and equip our staff with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively and efficiently perform their duties so as to improve the overall performance of the company and make Enterprise holdings the best transportation company in the world. Enterprise holdings has positioned itself as one of the leading transport companies in the world but is facing increasing competition. This calls for constantly enhancing the capacity of its workforce so that they can deliver quality services that exceed the customer’s expectations and overcome the challenges in the transport industry. Objectives The following objectives will guide the project team in achieving the mission of this this project and ultimately contributing to the success of Enterprise holdings at different phases of the project implementation cycle: 1. To review and evaluate current training in the Northwest. 2. To develop and expand the training initiative to all branches of Enterprise holdings in the United Kingdom. 3. To develop an effective training curriculum and training programmes to be used by Enterprise holdings in the United Kingdom. 4. To train all Enterprise holdings staff on emerging trends in the transport industry. While these are the pre-set objectives, the successful implementation of the project could also lead to other unforeseen objectives and benefits. Stakeholder analysis A project of this magnitude requires the participation of qualified personnel from outside the company with the necessary expertise and experience. To implement a successful training program to our staff will require the input of the following stakeholders who will be engaged in a participatory approach throughout the life of the project: Key stakeholder Role Training managers Overseeing the training of employees, supervising the trainers, working with the trainers in developing a high quality training curriculum Customers Identifying key areas of training so that our employees can serve them better. Participating in monitoring and evaluating the success of the employee training program. Trainers Developing the training content as well as facilitating the training of employees Enterprise holdings Provision of training venues and equipment as well as financing the training exercise. Professionals in the transport industry Identification of aspects of emerging trends and practises in the industry that the staff need to be trained on. Employees To identify areas where they need to be trained on and to attend the training sessions. Project coordinator Leading the project team in planning, implementing and monitoring the training exercise. Also documents and reports on project activities. External monitoring and evaluation expert In collaboration with the project team, he will assist in determining if the objectives of the project have been met and making recommendations on areas that may require additional training. All the identified stakeholders will be contacted in time and will be engaged in developing the implementation plan for the project. Measuring success Regular assessments will be made to know if the project is on course to achieving its goals. A combination of tools and techniques such as observation check list, questionnaires and interview guides will be used in determining the success of the program. The success of the employee training programs will be measured through a monitoring and evaluation exercise at different stages of the project. This will make it necessary for appropriate modifications to be made on the project implementation if it is determined that the project is not on course to achieving its goals and objectives to ensure that it succeeds. The exercise will involve external monitoring and evaluation personnel as well as the project teal, the clients and the staff/ trainees. This will focus on how the employees apply the skills and knowledge gained in the training in executing their duties. Questionnaires and interviews will also be administered to our customers to know if there is any improvement in customer service and client satisfaction. In the long term, if national economic factors remain constant or improve, the success will also be measured by increased profitability and fleet growth in the subsequent years. Questionnaires and interviews will also be administered to the trainees so as to know the relevance and benefit of the project and to identify areas that may need additional training. The training program shall equip the employees with necessary skills that they will apply throughout their working career hence the success of the project is expected to last beyond the life of the project. Identification of critical success factors The success of the project depends on a variety of factors that are within the control of the program team. An appropriate curriculum that addresses the training needs of our staff and the needs of our clients as well as the transport industry dynamics coupled with the identification of qualified, able and confident trainers to deliver the curriculum content to the staff is key to the success of the project. the project team will work together with all the necessary stakeholders and professionals to come up with a curriculum that addresses the training concerns of the employees as well as the demands of the job market. Taking into account the fact that employees will also have to attend work during the training period, a flexible training schedule and a conducive training environment is another success factor that is to be considered. The training timetable will be developed with input of all the concerned stakeholders to ensure that it is convenient to all of them. A maximum of two training hours will be allowed on any day win a twenty- minute break. Aligning the curriculum and objectives in line with government policies as well as seeking the approval of relevant government institutions could also contribute to the success of the project and secure additional support for the project. Adequate training equipment and stationary will also be availed and the participation of the audience as well as their mastery of content will be assessed during the training. In addition, an effective dispute resolution and communication strategy will be developed to ensure the coordination of project activities so that ultimately the project achieves its goals and objectives in time and within the financial allocation provided. Regular review and reports on the progress of the program will also be made so as to modify the program to accommodate any changes that may be necessary. The project team will also hold regular trouble shooting sessions to identify potential challenges to the success of the project and come up with necessary interventions in time. Possible failure factors Poor attendance of training sessions by trainees (employees) could lead to a massive failure of the project. An intervention for this is the use of attendance register for each training session and an incentive of ? 100 training allowance every week. In addition to these, the trainers will administer an assessment tests. Scheduling the training sessions after work when the employees are fatigued could also lead to failure of the project. As a result, most of the training will take place over the weekends. Although the training may take long, it is extremely necessary so that the trainees get adequate time to balance work and training. The training must also be tailor made to suit the training needs of employees as well as the demands in the market while at the same time addressing the gaps that exist in the job market and position our employees above our competitors. Key performance indicators These are factors and criteria that will show if a project is on course to achieving its goals and objectives and they can be identified at different phases of the project. Performance indicators are important in determining if a project is on course to achieve its goals and objectives so that the implementation plan may be modified if necessary. The attainment of the project objectives will be indicated by the following: Short term performance indicators: 1. Employees applying what they have learnt during the training at work and coping better with the challenges at work. 2. Positive feedback from our clients on the quality of service and client satisfaction. 3. Employees passing their assessment tests. 4. Positive feedback from our employees on the benefits of the training to them and better performance of their duties. Long term indicators of success: 1. Improved overall performance of Enterprise holdings based on customer service, fleet growth, profitability and development as well as placing the company ahead of its competitors. 2. Successful development of a training curriculum that equips the employees with new skills and knowledge to perform their duties. 3. Higher employee retention and a competent workforce that delivers the mossion, vision and objectives of the firm. There may be additional indicators of success that are unforeseen at the planning stages and the positive benefits of the successful implementation of the project may be felt by other stakeholders.
