Australian National Fund Raising Organization Association Introduction Our group has chosen the activity of fund raising for this assessment. We are planning to hold two separate events one for adults and one for teenagers in order to raise funds for the poverty stricken people. The fund raising events will be aimed at raising funds through donations and sales of eatable items. In this paper our group will discuss different aspects of the fund raising activity. This will include a discussion on the venue of the fundraisers, financial information, hiring staff for the fund raiser, finding sponsors, and advertising of the fundraiser event. Our group will use many techniques to raise funds through our events and they will be discussed below. Events Our group is planning two separate events in order to raise funds. There are two broad segments of the society that can be used to raise funds. One segment consists of adults of over 35 years of age and the other is the younger segment which comprises of young people from ages 16 to 35. Our group is planning to make use of both these segments to raise money for our fundraiser. For adults, we are planning a dinner reception where they will get a chance to socialize. In the dinner notable members will be given a chance to say something for the cause of poverty. The dinner reception will be formal as its target market is mature adult people who will be willing to spend their money on donations. Another, often neglected in terms of fundraising, segment of the society that can contribute to charity is the younger generation. Young people can also play a big role in raising money given that fundraising is done keeping in mind their needs. Our group is planning to hold a party for the younger population in order to raise funds for the poor. We will be selling food, drinks, and other items in the party in order to raise funds. Raising Funds from Events Different techniques will be used to raise funds for both the events. Older and younger people have different demands and perceptions, and it is vital to plan fundraisers accordingly in order to raise sufficient amounts of fund. Dinner Reception In the dinner reception funds will be raised by tickets and donations. People will be sold tickets and they will be communicated that the money we get from the tickets will go to the charity. In the dinner reception we will also ask people to donate money towards the cause. Speeches will be made to motivate them to raise money. In the dinner reception we will offer people drinks, appetizers, and dinner so that people have enough time to socialize, and we can raise more and more money. Donations will be our main target because most of the money from tickets will be used to cover expenses that will be incurred in arranging for the venue and dinner for guests. Party We will also be arranging a party for teenagers. They can also contribute significantly to the cause of poverty. Young people might not be able to donate large sums of money and therefore we will use a totally different approach to raise funds from them. We will invite them to the party where they will have to pay for drinks and food. We will set different stalls and a bar for teenagers so that they can enjoy food and drinks. We will also contact fast food companies to open their stalls in the party for free. We will also ask those companies to pay us a percentage of their sale as commission which will go to charity. Many fast food companies would be interested in such an offer and therefore we will not find difficulty in finding food for the party. We will also have a dance floor for teenagers. Local bars will be contacted for drinks and we will have a similar arrangement with them as we have with fast food companies. They will pay us commissions on the total sale they make in the party. We will advertise the party as a charity event so people are aware that the money they are spending is going for a good cause. This might motivate them to spend more in the party. Hiring Venue for the Event Hiring venue for the event will be the most difficult part of the activity. We will have to look for affordability and luxury at the same time, especially for the dinner reception. Guests at the dinner reception will come from rich families and therefore venue should also be luxurious enough. We will also have to spend money on drinks, appetizers, and food which will be of good quality because our honored guest list. It will be difficult to get a good venue at an affordable rate as far as dinner reception is concerned. The venue cost for the dinner part per person will be between $50 and $100, and this will also include food charges and drinks (Emporium Function Centre, 2012). We will be charging this an amount of $125 for our dinner reception per person so that the cost of venue and food is covered by tickets. All the money we raise from donations will be our main source of funds. Our group has decided to get the charge all the expenses of food, appetizers, and drinks from the guests. This means that the price for the ticket will be decided after getting quotes from venue owners and vendors. We are hoping to raise as much money as possible through donations in the dinner reception. For the party we have decided to contact local bars. We are looking forward to inviting around 175 to 200 people to the party and that is why a medium sized bar will be more than enough for party. We will be charging only nominal ticket fee from teenagers because we are already expecting them to buy food and drinks. Finding Sponsors Another way we can raise money is by finding sponsors for our events. We will try to contact as many companies as possible and most probably we will be able to get a sponsor for our dinner reception. We will be contacting companies like World Vision Australia and Red Cross for our events. We will also contact other big companies for sponsorship. Our group is hopeful that we will bag a few sponsors but due to uncertain nature of the amount we might get from the sponsors we have not included the money we will get from sponsors in our budget. We will try to arrange both the events and raise money through them without accounting for any money we might get from sponsors. Advertisements for the Events We will exhaust all personal channels for advertising the events. Our group will mainly rely on personal contacts. We will be making a Facebook page and a twitter account to tell people about the event. The aim is to use social media to the best of our advantage because in social media is playing a key role in advertisement in today’s world (Williamson, 2008). We will create a viral marketing campaign designing online pictures that will motivate people to donate more and more for the event. For advertisement we will be using banners in our university. We will also use word of mouth marketing as it is advised by experts (Garecht, 2011). We will also be conducting a door to door survey to invite wealthy people to the event. This will allow us to communicate with families about the purpose of the event and how they can contribute towards the cause of poverty. Such donation drives will help us advertise our fundraiser especially in areas where wealthy people reside. We will also advertise our banner in different languages. The Australian society compromises of many foreign nationals (Colebatch, 2012) and therefore it is important to advertise in many languages like Korean and Chinese. Another advertisement technique will be to invite famous local people to the dinner reception. We can then advertise that famous people will be at our fundraiser, and this might attract people to come to the fundraiser. It is important to understand the power of celebrity endorsement. They have the power to attract people like anything and this might also help in raising extra money for our fundraiser. Cost of Employing Staff Cost of employing staff will not be significant because we will be using our friends as staff. This is a noble cause and therefore it will not be difficult to find friends. We will although needing a few specialists like decoration in charge for the venue but that will be included in the charges for the venue. We will also hire services of a local DJ for the party and this will also not be extremely expensive. It will charge around $200 to $250 for a 4 hour party to hire a DJ (Gumtree, 2012).The rest of the staff will consist of volunteers which we will arrange through personal contacts. Conclusion The fundraiser our group is planning to organize is based on two separate events and each event is aimed at a particular target market. We are planning to organize a dinner reception for adults and a party for teenagers. We will use inexpensive ways to market our fundraisers and will target famous people so that we can raise as much money as possible for the poor. We will also be relying heavily on volunteers for arranging this fundraiser. Bibliography Colebatch, T. (2012). Land of many cultures, ancestries and faiths. The Sydney Morning Herald.
