Operations managers in this sector need to be very enthusiastic in application of the best operations techniques in order to meet the organizational goals. This requires an emphasis on the type of product to consumers, the required production processes, as well as the demand for the organization’s products and services (Scribd, 2011). The discussion in this paper aims at evaluating the usefulness of application of operations management techniques in meeting customer’s needs, as well as the achievement of organizational objectives. Operations management Operations management entails utilizing and overseeing the accomplishment of vital processes that help in making the ultimate consumable products in an organization. The operations are those processes that are involved in the conversion of inputs into outputs within a sound organization. They range from manufacturing, serving, training, and distribution of goods and services within a hotel, which is a food supplies industry. The rationale of the operations management is the careful monitoring of production’s activities, with the aim of producing quality products and distributing them appropriately. The overall major activities involved are those that entail the creation of products, development of new products and methodologies, as well as the ample distribution activities (Mukherjee. and Kachwala, 2009). Careful implementation of the reinstated activities is considered vital in the achievement of goals within the hotel sector. Therefore, the analysis of the internal hotel procedures and the substantial measurement are the two crucial factors of operations management. Significantly, the operations management in a hotel is accounted by the nature of their services and products, the operational scope, as well as the ultimate goals to be achieved. The operations managers in a hotel are ones that are charged with the responsibility of overseeing production and distribution activities. Moreover, the achievement of the operations services and activities is done via utilization of vital techniques, specific for each technical requirement (Kamauff, 2009). Operations management techniques The operations management techniques entail those processes that are employed as drivers to the operations management services stated above. The conversion of inputs into outputs requires utilization of equipment, material purchase, as well as management and monitory personnel for the sake of the required processes. There are various categories of the techniques, some of which are based on tools and equipment and others based on the operations research. Each technique employed is vital in accomplishment of a specific service in the operations management. They are inclusive of purchases management techniques that are useful when buying raw materials for the production of ultimate required goods within a hotel (Greswell, 2007). The inventory control technique is also very useful when it comes to invention of new strategies as well as adoption of new equipment. The quality control techniques are ample in ensuring delivery of valid products and services to organizational consumers. The use of logistics as an operations management technique also ensures that processes in the internal organizational environment coordinate well with the external organizational processes. Evaluation techniques are also employed to monitor the effectiveness and efficiency measures achievement in operations management. More crucial, use of forecasting techniques creates a rationale for evaluation of the prevailing market in order to control the production effectively. Nevertheless, appropriate application of the operations management techniques ensures that customers’ needs are met and the organizations are able to achieve their set goals (Gluck, et al., 1999). The application of OM techniques in meeting customer’s needs and targets achievement The main purpose of setting up organizations is to produce commodities or invent services that are useful to people in need of them, mainly referred to as customers. The hotel industry offers a long list of services and products, with it being in the hospitality industry. Therefore, there is a great requirement of the techniques that need to drive the services offer to the clients, as well as ensure achievement of the intended goals. There is also a broad category of operations topics and the focus here is on quality management and inventory management. These are very pivotal management areas that enhance organizational processes, with the aim of maximizing profits as well as ensuring effectiveness in the CRM (Armstrong, 2001). Quality management demands that products and services that hotels offer be of competitive quality. Foods that are sold in the hotel industry need be produced via employment of competitive expertise. Many hotels in the hospitality sector have long closed down in the recent decades due to lack of effective quality of served products and services. First, foods, services by employees, accommodation, as well as entertainment services need be in accordance to every season. This caters for changes that occur in the business sector as a result of substitute products and emerging new markets. This is the main reason for the need to invent in the quality control techniques. Appropriate professionals in the quality control expertise are relevant in driving quality management success. Customers are very seasonal and specific on their requirements, a factor that leads to the need for hotel updates. The management of operations must ensure adoption of every new production and offer strategies that are important in bringing the desired change, as well as implement in change management to ensure quality is observed. For instance, there is perception that Chinese products are usually made of low quality, a factor that makes customers shy away from purchasing such commodities, though at cheap prices. The recent focus by the presiding government is on how quality must be improved to increase the productivity. The quality control techniques in application in the recent developments are total quality management (TQM) as well as benchmarking strategies. The hotels acquirement of these techniques has recently caused a positive move in their operations (Anbuvelan, 2007). Inventory management is also very crucial within the hotel industry. The industry very sensitive as it involves a direct interaction with the main basic need to human and one in which health matters are very observed. Invention is a continuous process, since there is the emergence of new strategies on daily basis in the current volatile business world. In today’s business environment, porter’s five forces analysis reports indicate competitiveness, substitution and emergence of new markets, rampant threats as well as increased rivalry among the competitors (Lewis and Slack, 2003). These factors have crated a rationale for adoption and invention of new equipment and strategies that world help maintain customers and lead to organizational goals achievement. The employment of inventory techniques is therefore vital at all costs to ensure effectiveness and efficiency measures are fulfilled. The pre-requisite to the employment of inventory measures is the forecasting techniques. These are adopted and used to ensure that proper environmental scanning is conducted in order to survey the existing levels of consumer demands and the available supplies. It is then easy to forecast a particular period based on customer needs and invent appropriate strategies for operating in the existing environment. The service delivery techniques are also renewed in this case to ensure creating a distinction in the hotel industry, as seasons become updated via the application of service delivery systems. The inventory management techniques that have recently been in utilization are inclusive of Just-in-time control techniques that ensure that costs for invention are minimized while at the same time meeting all inventory needs. They should be appropriately applied in the hotels to ensure that the customer’s needs are met and the organizational goals are clearly met (Slack, Chambers and Johnston, 2010). Conclusion Operations management techniques are vital in meeting organizational consumer needs as well as meeting of organizational set goals. Operations management entails the processes that ensure that raw materials are converted into products and effectively distributed to meet customer’s needs. The operations management techniques are therefore instruments that are put in place to drive the accomplishment of these processes. The hotel industry requires various quality management and inventory management techniques that are inclusive of forecasting, inventory control and quality control techniques etc. However, the applications of these demand effectiveness in order that the hotels are able to meet their customer’s needs as well as achieve their intended goals and missions. Nevertheless, research that is more empirical should be conducted to come up with a clear explanation of the operations management techniques. List of References Anbuvelan, K., 2007.
