Job satisfaction is related to employees’ and organization performance and productivity. Human resources are also crucial in organizations because of their unique features of heterogeneity, perishability, intangibility, and inseparability. They are the ones that determine firm’s success or fall depending on their contentment levels with their jobs. Therefore, it is crucial for firms to evaluate their employees’ job satisfaction levels in order to improve their performance. Firms should also investigate on the possible effects of job satisfaction and productivity of employees to ensure continued success. Notably, there is a great interest among HRM practitioners and academics on the extent to which workers are contented with their work, and more basically in their well-being. In fact, numerous studies, today, reveal that there exists a close connection between employee well-being at work, and their productivity. Some of the factors that have been identified by various researchers in the recent past include job security; pay; work environment; organizational structure; associations with co-workers; associations with supervisors; promotion; recognition; internal communication; achievement; autonomy; work group; nature of work; and involvement. These factors enable employees to find their jobs meaningful, and thus attain contentment from the work itself. 1. Contribution In their article, Rad and Moraes (2009), examine factors that influence job satisfaction in public hospitals in Iran. It is essential in my study because it provide significant insights to my topic of study. My study’s main aim is to identify some of the factors identified to be influencing job satisfaction among institutional employees in Saudi Arabia. Since it addresses the same issues in public hospitals in Iran, the research findings will be helpful in relating it to Saudi Arabia workplaces. It will be instrumental in the provision of an appropriate platform for the comparison of job satisfaction factors in Saudi Arabia and Iran. Relevance This article is relevant to the topic of study “factors affecting job satisfaction in Saudi Arabia” since it addresses similar issues, though in different areas. The article seeks to identify some of the issues that impact on employees’ satisfaction in their jobs, particularly in public hospitals. It also investigates on the factors that lead to dissatisfaction of employees in public hospitals. According to the article, some of the job satisfaction factors identified include involvement, working conditions, good pay, job security, recognition, promotion, and tactful discipline. These are the same factors that are identified in the research proposal. This article is relevant to my topic of study because it illuminates on some of the main ideas that my research is set to explore. In my study, I intend to investigate on those issues or factors that influence people’s job satisfaction in Saudi Arabia. This implies that the article handles the effect of human resource management function and organizational climate on the employees’ job satisfaction in relation to Turkish banks. This topic is relevant and crucial to my study topic as it sheds light on factors influencing job satisfaction in Saudi Arabia. It contributes to my literature view by providing some of the issues that affect employees’ job satisfaction in Turkish banks, which can be related to workplaces in Saudi Arabia. Besides, knowledge of these factors is influential in my study as provides a hint of the issues under investigation. Relevance The relevance of this article is crucial in that it addresses issues related to my study. First, it explores some of the HRM functions that are associated with employees’ job satisfaction levels in organizations. Relevance Artz‘s article is crucial in relation to my study topic because it focuses on a similar topic under investigation. My proposed study seeks to identify some of the issues that determine work satisfaction among employees in Saudi Arabia. This topic is related to the one under study by Artz, which the role of performance and size of the organization in determining employees’ job satisfaction in various companies. The central theme of both studies is about job satisfaction factors. The relevance of article to my study topic, is therefore, is that the article is a source of information that the study seeks to uncover, but is already identified by Artz in the article. Besides, Artz (2008) notes that a common technique of attaining high performance levels of employees, is by connecting work performance to pay, instead of pay to time rate. This is because such links serve as incentives to work hard and increase productivity. In turn, high employee productivity due performance pay leads to their job satisfaction. In terms of firm size, the results indicate that there is a strong correlation between worker job satisfaction and size of the organization. This article is beneficial to my study as it sheds light on issues that affect job satisfaction among workers in organizations in Saudi Arabia. This is possible because of its wide variety of literature and conclusions made on the basis of collected information. In the article, the author notes that organizational justice is one the significant job satisfaction factors in Saudi Arabia. It also contributes to the study by adding to the literature review section, where various studies are reviewed in relation to the topic of study. Relevance The chosen article is appropriate for my proposed study topic because of certain benefits. To start with, it is significant to my study topic since it addresses the same issue as my proposed research topic; job satisfaction in Saudi Arabia. Secondly, the article is suitable for its information is collected in Saudi Arabia, the same place that I propose to carry out my study. In fact, this makes it more relevant to the proposed study since of a possibility of finding the same issues under investigation. According to Elamin and Alomaim (2011), job satisfaction is influenced by organizational justice for both Saudi and foreign employees. Furthermore, the authors reveal that organizational justice is categorized into principally, distributive justice, interactional justice, and procedural justice. This implies fairness in workplaces greatly affect workers’ productivity, and ultimate job satisfaction. Relevance In the case of the article’s significance to the proposed research topic, there is a close relationship between the two studies, which is vital in the development of literature review. Since it adds to my study’s sources of information, it is highly essential. Thus, it ensures the success of the study through clear understanding of the issue at hand, and identification of the literature gaps. Further, it is influential in facilitating my understanding of my research topic, and creating background information prior to going to the field for further investigation. In addition, the article contributes to the literature sources of the study; hence making my study rich in reliable information. Some of the significant information regarding job satisfaction determinants brought about by the article include occupational level, job congruence, job experience, and use of skills. Relevance The article is highly indispensable in that it contributes to the success of my proposed study. This is possible because of the fact that the article addresses similar issues that my proposed study is set to investigate. According to Bataineh (2011), job satisfaction entails the level of contentment of an individual on his job. The more workers are happy with his work, the more satisfaction they get. Therefore, the article contributes to my study by describing certain factors affecting job satisfaction among employees that include job security, appropriate pay, performance pay, bonuses, equal distribution of work, and well-organized working environment. These are the same factors that my topic of study intends to identify in the field in Saudi Arabia. Besides, the article’s choice is appropriate in that it increases the number of resources necessary in the achievement of the study’s objectives. Relevance In terms of relevance, the article by Kazi and Zadeh (2011) is instrumental ensuring the success of the proposed study. This is because it offers firsthand information from the field regarding job satisfaction factors, which can be directly linked to my study topic. Moreover, the arguments made by the authors are suitable, for they center on my research topic. The fact that the article also addresses issues of employee productivity and satisfaction makes it vital for my research for it provides background information to the study. The authors also describe various issues that influence employee work satisfaction in organizations, which include job security, equal job allocation performance pay, organized working environment, and bonuses. This information can be used in the formulation of hypotheses regarding the topic under study, because they have been investigated and proven in the research field. Therefore, the fact that the article is rich in credible and reliable information makes it one of the most valuable sources to use in my proposed study. Literature gap and implications on future studies Based on the above literature sources, it is clear that job satisfaction is crucial for any organization that strives to succeed. Human resources are among the highly indispensable units of a firm, and thus, organizations ought to ensure that they are treated appropriately so as to attain job contentment. The articles addressed above contain arguments that are founded on various studies and literature reviews; hence they are reliable. Despite the difference in authors, time, context, and arguments, the articles are strongly related as they focus on the same, which is worker job satisfaction. The most predominant factors determining job satisfaction among workers in many parts of the world include, but not limited to, job security; pay; work environment; organizational structure; associations with co-workers; associations with supervisors; promotion; recognition; achievement; autonomy; work group; nature of work; and involvement. The collection is critical for the proposed study, because it offers crucial background information towards the identification of work satisfaction issues in Saudi Arabia. Notably, most of the issues raised by the authors in all the articles above are similar. This implies that employees and organizations across the globe experience similar issues that affect their work satisfaction and productivity. Nevertheless, there is a need for the future studies to address the issue of levels of job satisfaction level among public sector employees; more factors affecting public workers’ job satisfaction; and relationship between job satisfaction factors and employees’ personal characteristics. This is because most of the researchers above have only focused on identification of job satisfaction factors among general employees in the different firms in distinct parts of the globe. In fact, some of them have mentioned a few factors; that is, they have failed to exhaust all the issues that impact on workers’ job satisfaction levels. Proposed topic In light of the literature gap, my proposed topic concerns factors affecting job satisfaction among employees in Saudi Arabia. Notably, more extensive research needs to be carried out in Saudi Arabia to determine those factors that influence workers’ job contentment, as well as organizational success. This is essential because human resources play a central role in the determination of a company’s continuity and prosperity. This implies that job satisfaction is strongly linked to performance levels, which in turn, reflects on their organizations’ effectiveness. The study will be effectively understood by exploring on those factors that affect public sector employees in the country. Here, it is also crucial to understand the job satisfaction levels among workers in the Saudi’s public sector. Besides, understanding the relationship between job satisfaction factors and workers’ personal features is also highly indispensable. Therefore, the problem addressed in my proposed study involves identification of the factors that affect employees in Saudi Arabia. This knowledge is valuable to organizations that intend to succeed in the current competitive world. Topic Factors affecting employee’s job satisfaction in Saudi Arabia. Aims and objective This proposed study is designed to achieve certain aims and objectives that include: To identify some of the factors that influence workers in the Saudi Arabia public sector To explore on the public workers’ job satisfaction levels in Saudi Arabia To identify the possible relationship existing between job satisfaction determining factors and the workers’ personal features Purpose of the proposed study The purpose of the proposed study is bridge the gap created by the previous studies on the same topic of study. According to the studies identified above, it is explicit that various researchers identified different factors that influence worker’s job satisfaction in distinct parts of the globe. Although majority of them suggested similar issues, there are some different ideas brought about by them. Thus, it is necessary to conduct another research on the same area so as to verify their credibility, as well as identifying additional information that most of the researchers failed to mention in their studies. What is more, the study is necessary in that it addresses issues regarding job satisfaction levels among employees in the Saudi Arabia sectors. This is important in that highly satisfied employees are associated with high productivity, and improved organizational performance. The study also intends to explore on the existing association between workers’ personal characteristics and the suggested job satisfaction factors. This is critical for any organization that desires to succeed in its operations, and retain most productive employees. The proposed study is also crucial in that it informs organizations on the significance of ensuring that their workers are fully satisfied with their jobs, as this have a direct impact on the firms’ performance and productivity. Conclusion Without doubt, human resources are highly indispensable units in every organization aiming at sailing through the modern competitive, corporate world. This is because employees, among other units in a firm, are the major determining organizational well-being and prosperity. Notably, it is imperative for firms to know about these factors, and treat their employees appropriately so as enhance their job satisfaction levels. Various researchers are compared in this study regarding the job satisfaction factors among employees. The most predominant factors determining job satisfaction among workers in many parts of the world include, but not limited to, job security; pay; work environment; organizational structure; associations with co-workers; associations with supervisors; promotion; recognition; achievement; autonomy; work group; nature of work; and involvement. Out of the annotated bibliography, there is a clear literature gap that needs to be filled by future studies. In this case, the proposed research topic concerns more factors influencing worker job satisfaction. This is further broken down into job satisfaction levels, and relationship between factors and employees’ personal features in public institutions in Saudi Arabia.
