He travels from the captivated isle of never land up to London purposely to hear Darling Wendy spin tales about his adventures and about him. His ego and behaviours are sometimes inflated, he is not just an ordinary boy, and he can do fly without using wings and match the hooks cutlass using a dagger only. In addition, he is the undisputed leader of the lost boys. He does not allow breaks in ranks something that makes him to be viewed as very strict and mean. As he illustrates, time makes not much difference to him and life is full of fun for him, just adventuring and whimsy. Bobby Discoll voiced Pan in his original film and Blayne weaver is presently voicing him. Peter Pan lives in Never Land Island and owns a pixie. Pan is portrayed as a protector and superhero of the film. As discussed thereafter, these experiences enriched Peter Pan leadership skills and his influence ability that he uses as a leader. He uses the acquired skills and expert knowledge to apply consultation and coalition tactics in his leadership. Though he was not an adult leader, he used his former knowledge to persuade his characters through position of power. Despite this shortcoming, he used his former experiences and education to demonstrate his ability to Snow white. Moreover, he is able to involve all stakeholders in decision-making and policy implementation because of education and life experiences as discussed. Snow White Snow white is a protagonist and a titular character of Disney’s first animated feature length film Snow White and the seven dwarfs since 1937. Snow is a young princess and she is described as the “fairest of them all”. In her innocence, she cannot see what is happening (the evil taking place around her). This condition makes her to be vulnerable especially to her stepmother who is extremely jealous of her. Her stepmother is the queen. Her stepmother feels jealous because she wants to be the fairest of all in the land. Importantly, Snows character is the one that draws her friends and inspires them to achieve and fight for their place. White is very kind and her purity and kindness does not only inspire her friends but also the forest animals and the seven dwarfs. Her friends, the forest animals and the dwarfs protect her because of the inspiration they get from her. She has been portrayed as a protective mother figure as well as an innocent child in her relationship and association with the seven dwarfs and the forest animal. Snow was articulated and spoken by Adriana Caseloti in the fast and original film. Katherine Von Till has seconded this. In addition, Carolyn Gardner has also voiced her in other appearances. Notably, Princess Snow White is the youngest and first official Disney princess. She provided the basics and antics for heroics like the princess Aurora and Cinderella who came later. Of all the Disney princesses, Snow is the most gentle and the sweetest. She is resilient, helpful, and naive and kind, she can sometimes be assertive and she has sternness just like her mother. She is also portrayed as very playful, teasing grumpy by laughing when she hits his nose as she was left to wash in the huff. Snow has the ability to absorb her abilities to have incredible strength, power, enhance senses and defy the other Disney’s. Her firmness in decision making and implementation is perceived to come from such abilities. However, due to her abilities she lacks some good qualities of a leader like consultation in decision making. Snow has developed coercion tendency in carrying out her mission. In addition, her ability to inspire people through positional power as stated rests on her expert and acquired skilled in his former roles. As expounded, both leaders acquired their influential and leadership skills from education and experiences. Australian leadership can be made possible by personifying characteristics and expert skills acquired from Snow White and Snow fiction leaders. Leadership Traits Introduction Influence denotes leader’s ability to successfully persuade the acceptance of his/her ideas and requests. For one to possess that influential ability on others requires power. Power on the other hand denotes the ability to influence others. Leaders need power to influence followers on his/her ideas and policies. Therefore, influence and power are closely linked and are at the centre of leadership traits. As suggested by Meyerson & Kline (2008), political behaviour is vital in influencing organisation’s policies and ideas that are evident in organisational groups and individuals. In times of leadership change, political behaviour sometimes becomes more intense because of power shift. The new leaders come in with their past behaviour and traits to their new role. Therefore, this cannot simply be dictated to them in order to appear different from their natural traits. There is no demarcation between people and politics because one presupposes the other. In addition, in any organisation no way politics can be minimised or eliminated. As stated by Algoe & Fredrickson (2011), for leaders to succeed, they are required to create political awareness, coalition, negotiation, network to influence people, bargain and power base in modern politics. The paper discusses leadership traits and their influence to people presented in a case study on fiction leadership traits of Peter Pan who is a main character and Snow White who is also a maim character in a film. Q 2 Comparing two leaders leadership styles Peter Pan who is the main character in the same name film and Snow White who leads is also the main character in the Snow white and the seven dwarfs film, leadership style have both contraries and similarities. Contingency leadership style Pan uses contingency theory by involving its teammates in carrying out the mission. Snow White is portrayed as courageous girl with many psychological and social challenges but uses his technological skills and knowledge to overcome the limitation. She rallies her group through inspiration to achieve their target. On the other hand, Peter Pan uses kryptonian skills known as Torquasm Vo to dictate to his squad what to do in tough situations (Kripal 2011). Path-Goal leadership style Snow White uses path-goal style that is based on his follower’s expectations. With his strong personal convictions, difficult choices, perseverance and irremovable childhood trauma he leads by putting his member’s opinions. As stated by Dalglish & Miller (2010), Snow White is perceived as hardworking leader who tirelessly works with his fellow team mates. Snow White is also talented and willing to see herself out and about her ideas under all cost. Peter Pan does not use path-goal style but uses his position power to encourage positive reception of request/policies as it was the case with Magical Woman (Kripal 2011). Leadership Grid style The leadership Grip is based on relationship or production orientation of a leader. A leader who balances production concerns with his followers concerns is called middle of the road leader. A leader who is productive orientated with little attention to his followers is termed as task leader. Then, a leader who manifests high attention for people’s interests and high interest for production is called team leader. Snow White, as team leader, involves her colleagues in planning and implementing tasks. She is also obsessed with concepts and policies to build good strategy to lead her ideas and inspire others to achieve their targets. Despite her limitations, she leads her group to by moving from one place to another at the appropriate time. As noted by Dalglish & Miller (2010), Peter Pan does not present a balanced image of leadership to the public, in this case he is a task leader. He is obsessed with having adventure such that he overdoes planning something that does not go well with his colleagues. Therefore, he is perceived as ego-centred, ego-driven, non-consultative and to some extent dictatorial leader concerned on task on hand only. This is well manifested after taking his high places. His public image is presented as a self-made and self-assured and no-nonsense in adventure that may be viewed as autocratic, arrogant and intimidating. Snow White is also viewed as dictator especially when she summons colleagues at will and hates others with no reason (Yu & Miller 2005). Sometimes Snow White is perceived as a robotic, socially dysfunctional, loner, intolerant, and who lacks positive feedback. For instance, Snow White mostly spent her time with her colleagues. She consequent behaviours like loneliness naturally originate from her personality traits which regularly come out. Her willingness to conceal her real self-fades and her positional power definitely decline with longevity in power (Kripal 2011). Situation leadership style Situation leader use natural ability and personal techniques to lead in various situations. The relationship between people and a leader depends on leader’s style such as selling, delegating, telling and participating. Snow White as situational leader applies her expert knowledge on technology resource, physical ability and former knowledge to build best weapons and cat-cave in order to lead her justice seen in mistreatment of her colleagues by the queen. She is able to delegate several duties to her collagues. For instance, he allows her brother John to lead the team in the film. While Peter Pan as telling leader uses his expert in adventuring, inspiring and kindness to bring hope to Peter Pan squad by dictating what to be done (Lee & Koh 2001). Likert’s four leadership styles Both leaders are clear thinkers and very analytical by use of Likert’s four styles to enable them lead their followers to perform in their tasks towards crime. Snow White is able to use participation style to John in order to accompany her in competing against Peter Pan who wanted to have the best of adventures and fun. On other hand, Peter Pan uses expert skills to apply telling style to lead his members. Snow White who is mortal leader is penchant for control unlike Peter Pan who is non-consultative. Snow White leadership position is one of teamwork in adventuring while Peter Pan ’s leadership position of most powerful man, able leader in the film in adventure ng (Kripal 2011). Global leadership style Snow White presented as more effective and successful leader than Peter Pan. Snow White is able to mobilise more people by motivating and inspiring her people. As a matter of fact, Snow White is most intriguing leader than Peter Pan because Snow White presents real challenges facing real world leaders today (Dalglish & Miller 2010). Q 3 Transformative and transactional leaders Transformational leaders possess the ability to bring change in organisation successfully through influence that is highly desired in modern organisation. On the other side, transactional leader assumes that people are influenced through reward and punishment. Successful leaders are believed to apply both behavioural influences to effect change to their targeted people. Transactional leadership traits According to Hallinger & Heck (2010), Snow White and Peter Pan, due to their involvement style, are perceived has having strong influencing style based on positional power as well as personal power. This meant them to behave as transactional leaders who exchanges one favour with another. Snow White and Peter Pan also use legitimate tactics to influence their willing people. They use formal policies to verify the authenticity of a request in order to legitimate the targeted people. Nevertheless, this influencing leadership style is not much effective in transformation because is perceived as dictatorial. Both leaders are reported to have used pressure to influence their members through transactions. Snow White sometimes does not involve everybody in making decisions (Kripal 2011). Peter Pan non-nonsense approach makes him face no opposition within his operation’s team. Peter Pan is not confronted with pressure to keep his followers as well as winning more support due to some personal behaviour. Both leaders use coalition tactic from their behavioural influence to implement their targeted goals. This is well demonstrated by two leaders coming together to having fun and adventure. They use it since is perceived as the best way of influencing and adventuring (Lee & Koh 2001). Transformative leadership traits Snow White and Peter Pan use both positional and personal power in expert and referent style to effectively bring transformational change as stated earlier. Snow White who is autocratic leader is perceived to implement change through personal power rather than position power by use of both expert and referent leadership styles. Snow White due to his consultation character is perceived as successful transformational leader with good influencing style despite her limitation and weakness. Her transformative behaviour is demonstrated by her ability to collaborate with other teammates to offer assistance in adventuring to support her ideas and policies (Hallinger & Heck 2010). Snow White does not forget her limitation, since she is the only leader in the team. Her leadership is more of consensus in decision-making and ready to take risks. Snow White successfully transforms his league team to understand their responsibilities and obligations in various tasks (Hallinger & Heck 2010). Snow White is more transformative leader than Peter Pan is because she uses effective leadership traits. Q 4 Leadership styles Snow White and Peter Pan used several leadership styles as discussed below Legitimate and pressure leadership style Snow White position as the leader in the film “Snow White and the seven dwarfs” and Peter Pan position as a leader in the film “the same name” empowered them to instruct on the activities to be carried out. They used coercive power to reinforce the decisions and directions towards their goals. For those who failed in carrying them out were subjected to intense directives to realize and carry out the assignment or instructions delegated to them. For example, Peter Pan uses his power in order to proclaim himself as a sole adventure leader who will lead others in having total fun and adventure. He also dismissed Magic Woman from Peter Pan squad since she never adhered to his leadership style by challenging his super power. Reward leadership style Snow White and Peter Pan also used reward power to influence supports. They did this by allocating some benefits to keep their supports motivated to achieve the set objectives (Galinsky et al. 2008). For instance, Wonder Woman and John are assigned to be co-leaders due to their good work. Expert and referent leadership style Snow White and Peter Pan used rational persuasion, personal appeal and inspirational to provide best needed technical knowledge through sharing their experience. Their supporters developed the sense of belonging and felt accepted in order to submit themselves. Snow White shared her experiences experiences with his colleagues to inspire them in adventuring. Snow White and Peter Pan used expert tactic to foster interest in vision, social conscience and long-term policy to sustain the adventurous mood and fun. Snow White used her behaviour that was liked by most of the people and his personality that was pleasing to teammates to lead adventure successfully. Peter Pan used expert skills to persuade his colleagues team lead by Snow White to accept his leadership (Chiang 2009). Information and connection leadership style Snow White enhanced visibility with supporters through planning, implementing and controlling the adventure as well as evaluating the individual’s performances. Chiang (2009) states that, a leader must be in a position to influence the subordinates, peers as well as the bosses in the working place or in an organization. Both leaders formed coalition in order to direct their super league team towards accomplishment of the task they were undertaking and the endpoint was impressing. Snow White is well connected with her teammates whereby their sit to plan on how to move from one place to another due to their limitations (Flurry & Burns 2005). Conclusion Leadership affects the context where people move towards the achievement of goals. Leaders are encouraged to use charismatic and personal power traits to influence their followers towards achievement of organisational policies and vision. They are also expected to apply leadership skills learned in various fields to control the supporters and win back the lost ones. On the other side, those who lack natural charismatic traits need to use appropriate leadership skills. Some of good tactics to be used are such as consultation and inspiration styles to keep the faithful and woo more supporters. Good leader influences others by working with them to achieve the desired goals. Through this attainment of party objectives is both shared by supporters and leader Flurry & Burns (2005). Therefore, every successful leader needs to interplay his/her personal quality both innate and acquired with power to influence his/her ideas and values to his/her people. As observed in the two leaders, leader’s personal behavior always affects their leadership effectiveness. This is because no matter how hard they suppress them automatically come out. To avoid this every leader should cultivate good values to influence the supporters in buying their ideas. Just like Snow White, world leaders need to apply dramatic example to inspire and stir people regardless of their limitation.
