Project analysis report Student’s Name: Instructor’s Name: Course Code: Date of Submission: Executive Summary This project report analysis discussed the South Australia Health and Medical Research Institute project which helps to improve the health issues of the people by conducting the research. The project was implemented successfully due to the skills of the project managers. The main stakeholders of the project discussed in this report include the employees, the suppliers, the government and the project manager as well as the community. The critical success factors which led to the success of the project according to this report include good communication, adequate resources like the employee skills and the finance resources. Careful planning also contributed to the success of the project. I have leant communication skills and careful project planning. Introduction Effective planning enables the project manager to achieve the goals and objectives set. Project management is an important aspect in the growth of any organisation which wants to achieve its desired market share (Harrison & Dennis 2004). In this regard therefore, it is the responsibility of the project manager to ensure that the resources are mobilized like the human skills and the finance resources to implement the project successfully. The South Australia Health and Medical Research Institute is a project that has been completed successfully due to the skills and competence which were possessed by the project manager. The project was aimed at providing the opportunities to the researchers so that they can conduct their research regarding the health issues. The project has attracted the attention of the global researchers conducting various researches in health (South Australia Health and Medical Research Institute 2014). The project was all about developing appropriate research institute where the researchers can conduct their research relating to the health issues. The figures in the appendix show the view of the South Australia Health and Medical Research Institute. The main objectives of the project include; I. To provide researchers with necessary equipment to conduct the research to improve the living standards of the people II. To provide an opportunity for the world researchers to find a place where they can conduct research to determine the environmental issues and find solutions to the problems III. To promote a health internal environment considering its design which reduces heat emitted to the environment Project stakeholder analysis The stakeholders are the people whose operations affect the implementation of the project or who are affected by the project. The first key stakeholders are the employees. The employees help to implement the planned activities to ensure that the project is completed successfully. In order to ensure employees maximization, the project manager should train the employees as a way of motivating them so that they can offer their best skills to achieve the goals and objectives of the project (Harrison & Dennis 2004). The expectation of the employees is that they should be paid well so that they can meet their personal needs and in this effect they will enjoy their work. The project manager is also a key stakeholder in the project implementation. The project manager has the highest responsibility in determining the success of the project. The project manager is expected to possess the analytical and technical skills as well as the communication skills to ensure that the project is planned and implemented successfully (Harrison & Dennis 2004). Moreover, the project manager has the duty of motivating the employees so that they can maximize their efforts towards improving the completion of the project. The Australian government further has the responsibility of funding the project to ensure it does not lack the financial resources. The government has the responsibility to ensure that the tendering process is clear to ensure that the contractor is qualified (Kerzner 2003). This is the strategy which was applied that ensured that the project was completed successfully. Therefore the government is considered as among the key stakeholders of the project. The suppliers on the other hand played an important role in the execution of the project. The suppliers contribute to the quality of the project in that they determine the quality of the outcome by supplying quality construction materials. The suppliers also ensure that the materials are delivered at the right time and in the right quantity to meet the needs of the project plan (Kerzner 2003). This ensures continued construction since there will be no stoppage in the construction process due to availability of the construction materials. Finally, the community and the environmental organisations are also key stakeholders who should not be forgotten. For instance, the environmental organisations should certify the project so that its activities do not affect the environment (Kerzner 2003). The community also contributes to the project by offering labor and supporting the tasks of the project. Project management Process Like any other project, South Australia Health and Medical Research Institute project underwent the four project phases. The first phase of the project was the initiation stage where the project was identified and its objectives formulated (Khang & Moe 2008). The location of the project was identified and critical path approximated. The resources which are consumed by the project are also identified and measures put in place to achieve the resources. After the initiation phase, the next step is the planning phase. This is the phase which involves careful planning by identifying the various tasks and allocating the resources to each task. At this phase, the project manager takes the responsibility of designing the various strategies to handle the tasks (Khang & Moe 2008). The key stakeholders are identified and their expectations identified and this helps to ensure their needs are met which help to maximize their efforts which lead to the success of the project. The third and most important phase of the project is the implementation stage. The planned activities are then put into practice. The employees should be motivated so that they can offer their best skills to ensure they achieve the desired target. Moreover, good communication is another important function in the success of the project (Pennypacker 2002). There should be an effective communication strategy to make sure that there is an effective information sharing which helps to create good relationship among the employees. Finally, evaluation of the project is the last phase whereby the project manager takes the responsibility to ensure the expected outcomes are achieved. The goals and objectives of the project are used to evaluate the success of the project (Pennypacker 2002). Appropriate measures are then taken to ensure the future projects are undertaken effectively. Due to careful planning, it can be determined that this project ran to plan. The tasks were implemented according to the intended plan. The first of careful planning is that it helps to utilize the resources effectively. For instance, through careful planning, the project manager was able to acquire the relevant materials at the right time and this led to the successful implementation of the project. Another benefit of careful planning is that it helped to manage the conflicts among the employees which could have arisen from inadequate resources (Rad & Anantatmula 2005). Careful planning also helps to improve the performance of the employees since they are delegated the responsibility where they are specialized and this improves their productivity. The tools which were applied to manage the project include the project plan. This is the tool which was applied to ensure that the project is managed according to the plan. The tasks were implemented according to the work break down and which helped to manage the project successfully. The diaries were also applied to manage the project (Rad & Anantatmula 2005). The diaries indicated the sequence of the activities and how they could be implemented and this helped to act as a guide to the employees while performing their duties. The critical success factors In the first place, there is the availability of resources. There is no project which can succeed without the adequate availability of resources. The resources which are needed in the project plan include the human skills and the financial resources as well as the equipment like the computers which are used to ensure effective management information system (Ramakrishna 2010). Adequate availability of the resources improved the management of the project. Adequate training is another important critical success factor which led to the success of the project. Careful planning is also another critical success factor which led to the project success. This led to effective utilization of the resources to ensure the task are performed as intended. Moreover, the appropriate communication strategy helped to provide feedback to the project manager which helped to improve the information sharing and monitoring of the project (Ramakrishna 2010). Through effective communication, the various tasks were coordinated appropriately and this improved the mobilization of resources towards the success of the project. The end result is that the project manager was able to coordinate the project activities effectively leading to the success of the project. Conclusion The first lesson that I have leant from this project report analysis is that effective communication is the key to the success of the implementation process. This is because through effective communication, there will be effective information flow which helps to ensure success of the tasks. On the other hand, I have leant the effective analytical skills which help to analyze the success of the project. Moreover, the project report analysis helped to improve my careful planning skill so that the various tasks can be planned effectively. In this regard therefore, in the future, I will improve communication skills and effective delegation of duties to ensure that the employees are assigned the duties where they are best specialized and this helps to improve the productivity of the employees.
