Critical review Unit 5 Recruitment and selection techniques ensure that a company hires the most appropriate employees who possess the desired qualities. Prospective employees must always understand the basic requirements of an organization thus hone the appropriate skills in order to gain employment. The unit discusses the various recruitment and selection techniques that one must know in order to prepare himself appropriately for a job and career growth. Salary is among the factors that motivate people to work. However, it may also become the impediment to obtaining an employment. As such, a prospective employee must negotiate salaries effectively in order to obtain commensurate remuneration. The unit explains that one must carry out extensive research on both the roles of a position and the competitive remuneration for such roles. Research helps inform the salary negotiations. Accepting a good job is yet another factor that enhances career satisfaction thus growth. One must work in an appropriate industry and in a position that offers satisfaction job satisfaction. Cases of underemployment arise from people working in inappropriate positions. The unit therefore explains the stages of enhancing job satisfaction by accepting the right job. a good job for example should provide one with a balance between job and family. A job should also offer friendly yet competitive working environment. Such factors ensure that one achieves his desires to grow. A friendly working environment is one in which the employee relate with each other and share the company’s objectives. A challenging environment on the other hand requires effective skills thus ensuring that one seeks on job training in order to acquire the necessary skills (Armstron, Murlis & Hay Group, 2007). This ensures that one advances his skills and knowledge thus growing a career. Unit 6 Presentation skills are vital in creating and advancing a career. An individual must present both himself and his ideas in an effective manner thus enhancing communication. This plays a fundamental role in enhancing success at the place of work. The framework of communication consists of the sender, receiver, the message and presentation. Presentation affects the quality of the communication process since it may hamper the process thus affecting the reception of the message. This validates the need for effective presentation skills. Presentation is a holistic process that requires one to understand himself. Understanding one’s self is vital since this enhances the presentation process. One should know personal features that are likely to interfere with the presentation ad organize the presentation in an appropriate manner. Knowing the message, the audience and objective are other basic requirements that influence the nature of the presentation. One must understand the factors thereby developing a presentation that meets the objectives of the process. The unit further discusses the essence of teamwork. Teamwork refers to the process of working with others in order to achieve specific goals. Working in teams is vital since it enhances the processing of achieving the goals. Teamwork enhances productivity since the members of a team help each other overcome their weaknesses. However, the process requires one to possess specific skills and personality attributes. The factors that enhance the success of teamwork are clear goals, a universal way of working, effective communication among the tea members, cooperation and support among the members and constant assessment of the progress. Unit 7 The unit discusses the importance of interpersonal skills in career development. Interpersonal skills are vital in enhancing the development of a social network. This contributes to career advancement since it equips an individual with appropriate conflict resolution skills. Key among the issues in the topic is stress management. Jobs have stress, which an individual must always overcome effectively in order to grow. Job related stress often make the work frustrating thus impossible for one to advance a career. The stages of managing and overcoming stress include developing an appropriate mindset (Garner & Alty, 2001). Staying positive helps overcome stress a feature that validates the need for the formation of a right mindset. Self-talk, support groups, taking time to relax and creating actionable items are some of the ways that one can use to overcome stress thus lead a satisfactory and fulfilling life. Leading a stress free life is vital in perfecting the interpersonal skills that in turn enhances career advancement. Confidence is yet another vital factor that influences interpersonal skills. Self-confidence begins with effective grooming. An individual must maintain a professional appearance, which begins with appropriate attire and posture. This boosts confidence thus enhancing the authority in one’s articulations. Grooming includes hairstyle, fragrance, make up and body art among many other features. Effective interpersonal skills begin with appropriate grooming that enhances the interaction among the people in a place of work. Grooming contributes to the construction of self-image. Self-image refers to how one wishes the others to view him or her. Creating an effective self-image requires appropriate interpersonal skills. Unit 8 The unit addresses the need for analysis of the skills required in a particular career. Effective analysis of the skills helps prepare a learner to the requirement of a particular profession. Developing a career is always an essential process that enhances job satisfaction. The unit therefore discusses the effective way of enhancing the process thus helping an individual enhance his productivity (Weimer, 2010). The process begins with self-analysis. One must understand his strengths and weaknesses. Comparing such to the requirements of the career helps establish the knowledge gap. This way, it becomes easier to hone particular skills that are relevant to the profession. . Career growth is a process that requires appropriate skills coupled with opportunities. Analyzing the skills required in a particular profession helps in career growth since one ensures that he acquires useful skills necessary for the daily operations. Carrying out extensive research on the field is the surest way of acquiring the appropriate skills required in a field. Additionally, some skills are basic and always help in any position. Such skills include interpersonal skills most organizations require their employee to work in teams. Teamwork requires effective interpersonal skills to enhance the relationship among the employees. Besides the technical necessary for a particular industry, one must have favorable interpersonal skills coupled with effective grooming to help create a cohesive workforce that operates as a unified whole, as is the norm in most organizations. . Unit 9 As explained earlier, career advancement is always among the basic desires of every employee. As such, the employee must therefore make specific commitments in order to enhance their career advancement (Innes, 2012). The curriculum vitae are essential tools in career advancement. An employee must always make the CV represent their prowess. The CV must always reflect every improvement on the personal skills and experiences. Additionally, career advancement requires one to develop effective networks. The networks are vital in enhancing the professionalism of an individual thus fostering the growth of knowledge in the industry. The three companies offer employees an opportunity to advance careers and develop formidable networks thus enhancing employee satisfaction. Interviews are important strategies used by employers to assess their employees. A job applicant must present himself appropriately to the interviewer with the view to convincing them of his or her qualities. Grooming and communication skills are vital in enhancing success during an interview (Powers, 2010). An interviewee must present himself favorably by possessing the appropriate responses to the questions asked in the process. Confidence is always vital in enhancing success in interviews. Confidence arises from possessing the appropriate technical knowhow coupled with appropriate interpersonal skills. Grooming is vital in enhancing confidence. Maintaining eye contact coupled with appropriate sitting postures are some of the features one must observe in order to enhance success during interviews.
