Marketing Marketing W5 Governments establish innovative services intended to benefit the public mostly because of the fiscal restraints that the identified group has as well as to provide for the demand for efficiency in delivery of services. For such services to be available to the public, the government or the local state agency must be both process and public oriented. The contemporary world is experiencing innovation in public services as a modern day reality. The UAE is one of the regions to apply innovation in delivering public service. In addition, this country has also pledged to reward the citizens for contributing ideas into the advancement of the public service delivery. The UAE has resulted to using an unexpected way of public service delivery; using unmanned drones. This is highly innovative. This is because it uses the most updated technology, which does not require a human. This implies that the margin for errors when delivering these services is considerably slim. This means more efficiency with regard to speed. Although the drones will still be used in defense, the UAE is also applying them in healthcare and education. This is also an innovative service because it is customer oriented. In the past, most services were profit oriented. However, with the launch of this service, UAE government has indicated that its attention is directed towards the welfare of the population. The drones could be used in times of disasters to deliver certain services. This would ensure that the services get to the scene as soon as possible as opposed to other means such as ground travel. In addition, in spite of the fact that is in its initial launch phase, the government has decided to use the public to improve its efficiency by asking them to contribute ideas which would be rewarded. This is innovative because previous governments did not encourage input from the public. W5-2 There are several differences between social innovation, frugal innovation, and reverse innovation starting with what they incorporate. Social innovation incorporates the most recent strategies and ideas in delivery of social services that may range from education to communal health. A perfect example of social innovation is the open ideo, which seeks to provide immunization using technology. Frugal innovation, on the other hand, is the reduction of complexity of a product so as to affect its distribution and production. For instance, this may incorporate the Tata Nano which was introduced in India to cater for the non-four wheel customers who used non-safe two wheel vehicles. Moreover, reverse innovation includes innovation that develops in the emerging markets but sold in the industrialized countries. A perfect example is the plan by Tata to distribute an improved version of Tata’s Nano model. While frugal innovation uses an existing product but reduces its complexity, reverse innovation uses new products. Additionally, reverse engineering delivers products accepted globally and even in the industrialized countries while frugal innovation targets third world countries only. The extent of social innovation is limited by the borders of a country or a specific region but is not global as the other innovation forms. One of the similarities in these modes of innovation include that all are utilizing technology. In addition, these modes of innovation are geared towards reducing the financial burden placed on the user or the buyer. These modes are also intended to improve the overall well-being of the people although they use different approaches. W6-1 A competitive business world requires innovative strategies so that a business can remain productive and in operation. Such strategies incorporate application of models that include the stage gate model. As a professional, I can implement this model in our company using an already established procedure. To do this, I would first begin with defining all goals as well as the objectives. The goals help in providing a long term direction while the objectives provide a precise way of realizing these goals. This procedure would be possible if the involved parties would ensure adequate communication. In this stage, all parties should have a clear understanding of how the objectives fit in the broader business goal. The second step that I would take in this quest is defining strategic thrust, which is the key to the entire product innovation procedure since it incorporates focus. This step would help in identification of the key areas that the company should focus on when attacking the main areas that require attention. In addition, this step would require an entry strategy. Such strategies may incorporate emphasizing on certain strengths, competencies as well as product attributes. The next step would incorporate making deployment decisions. This involves determining spending commitments, strategic buckets as well as all involved priorities. This helps in determining resource allocation so as to align the identified business goals with product development. Strategic buckets would be used when making decisions based on resource deployment. The final step would incorporate establishment of a product roadmap, which plots all main initiatives that would assist in the attack plan. One of the main challenges that I would encounter includes establishing a cooperative culture. This is because this procedure demands intense cooperation and communication skills to pull off. In addition, the procedure would require adequate time as all stakeholders must agree on the goals, the objectives, and how to allocate resources. W7-2 Most successful organizations acknowledge that the main reason behind their innovation is the service employees. The employees play certain important roles in the process towards innovation. One of these roles includes contribution of ideas. The employees are at a better position to contribute ideas because they are aware of the challenges facing the organizations and the markets that the organization serves. Therefore, they are at a better position to spot a situation that provides opportunities that could be exploited. However, to facilitate this role, the organization’s management must provide a learning environment in the organization. This in turn requires the management to involve the most appropriate leadership styles to encourage an innovative culture. The other role that the employees have is risk taking. When the organization facilitates the most appropriate environment, the employees get the go-ahead to try their ideas and determine which work. Moreover, the employees also have the role to utilize the resources that the organization has provided to look for opportunities and ways to exploit them. My organization can engage the employees in the process of innovation by encouraging the employees to go beyond their job descriptions and try new ideas. The organization can also inspire curiosity among the employees, which would ensure that they challenge the existing norms. This quest may also be fulfilled if the organization could create freedom and a sense of independence in the employees. It would also help if the employees could be compensated adequately for ideas brought forward. Read More
