As technology steadily launches into 2016, and as individuals have expectations and wishes in the coming years, one thing is clear to a majority of individuals, this is the fact that the world is on the verge of global connection, this is greatly attributed to globalization and more and more individuals joining the online world and slowly moving away from a life of disconnection (Grant & O’Donohoe, 2007). Consumers across the globe are adopting cell phones or mobile phones in amazingly astonishing ways and this opens up new ways through which individuals interact with each other, educate each other, shop, communicate and even entertain themselves creating the question, what the future holds for mobile technology. Most mobile phone developers are rushing towards 5G technology with analysts suggesting that these next level network milestone shall be reached between the years 2018 and 2020. This shall be coupled with improvements in size, functionality, and shape of the mobile or cellular phones. It is true to state that the number of mobile phones has long superseded the human population, according to French Steve Amdocs open market president over 90% of their consumers own either a mobile phone or a tablet.According to him, proliferation isn’t the only factor influencing this widely spread of use, however, other factors such as demographics also greatly play a major influential role, below are 5 trends in the mobile phone handset sector. 1. This technology has been greatly linked to the field of ubiquitous technology. One good example is Twitters advancement. Mobile payments are a very important trend due to its significance and great positive influence in commerce and the world of business. Mobile payments have greatly revolutionized business, making payments as well as cash transfers from one individual to another easy, efficient, and reliable no matter the geographical location. Mobile selling and buying is another very important trend because it has greatly influenced the world of business by bringing the market closer to both parties i.e. the seller and the buyer (Scharl, Dickinger & Murphy, 2005). Additionally, the seller can avoid additional second parties that would eventually make the prices of their commodities go high. This trend helps individuals get acquainted to the internet through cellular phones a skill that is very essential in today’s business world (Hitt, Ireland & Hoskisson, 2012). Through this trend, we have supermarkets, companies, music stores and even taxi companies come up with their mobile phone applications through which the clients can gain access to the products or services from their cellular phones and think about purchasing the goods or going for the services or not. Social networking is the 3rd most essential trend in the mobile phone handset sector. Social networking has played a great role in cultural diffusion and through it different individuals have been able to interact and mingle despite the distance, geographical boundary and race. Social networking is one of the pioneering forces to westernization which is the spread and adoption of western ideas as well as globalization which is the integration of the world economies to form a single global market, where companies, entities, and even individuals can compete effectively. A lot of mobile phones have been used by individuals to record instances where the human rights of individuals was being infringed upon and this images or videos get uploaded into the social networks, this greatly alerts the various bodies to intervene and the salvage the situation (Kavassallis et al, 2003). These include computers, computer software and online services. Its best known hard ware technologies include the mac computers, iPod media players, IPhone smart phones and many more (Hawkins & Mothersbaugh, 2009). IPhone is a line of smart phones designed and manufactured by Apple Inc. These phones run the IOSmobile operating system designed by Apple. Apple Inc.’s strategy has been inclined to the production of full feature phones (Ferrell & Hartline, 2012). The phones include a whole range of essential features of the new modern business world. IPhones are built upon a multi touch screen system that provides a keyboard where the user can input the information. The mobile phones have been fitted with various ways through which they would access the internet hence, keep the user connected at all times. Its small priced mobile phones were greatly received in the markets of Asia, South America, and Asia. As part of its strategy in the early years, Nokia was a very influential player in the development of the GSM 2G networks also referred to as the Global system for Mobile Communications (Persaud & Azhar, 2012). This was a second generation mobile phone technology that gave mobile phones the capability to carry data as well as receive voice calls at the same time. It was the world’s first telephony network that enabled mobile phones to have international roaming. It is this technology that was adapted as the standard European digital mobile technology. GSM’s high quality and crystal clear voice calls as well as the capability to access international roaming enabled for various mobile phone features such as short messaging or SMS’s and this laid a major platform in mobile phone use. Theories should give insight into whom the business competitors are, how a business can be affected by competitors and how to effectively compete in a highly competitive domain. One very important theory is Game theory; this theory assumes that a company is a hyper institution where rationality applies. Hence, it would always strive to make sure that it achieves the most preferred outcomes despite limited resources and available constraints. The theory also assumes that the rivals also behave in a similar manner and it’s up to the company to do all it can to gain competitive advantage over its rivals. The theory suggests on innovation and creativity, hence for the above named companies, coming up with new phones or brand new features in phones would greatly aid in gaining advantage. It also emphasizes on product quality, consumers would prefer mobile phones that last longer and do what they are supposed to do accordingly. The theory also insists on market pioneering, this is a fast mover’s strategy and these market companies should make sure that they are the first to introduce a new product into the market. Lastly, the theory insists on market focusing, this is where a product is designed intended to target a particular market.
