The facility has a Regional Treatment Centre for Ear, Throat and Nose, Designated Cancer Centre, and Gastroenterology. It is also a National Referral Centre for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Cochlear Implantation, and Renal Transplantation. The hospital has a bed capacity of 820 and employs an estimated 3,000 staff. In Ireland, it remains the key teaching hospital for the Royal College of Surgeons. It enjoys closer association with Dublin City University, particularly in the field of nurse training, training, and research concerning other academic institutions (Ward, 2004).

Beaumont Hospital Board has been charged with the management of St. Joseph's Hospital, Raheny since 2004. Being an acute Hospital, St. Joseph's provides both Surgical and Medical in-patient care, Outpatient Physiotherapy, Radiology Services, and Day Care Services. A Rehabilitation Unit has been developed in the Hospital which accommodates 69 patients. The hospital engages pioneering, market leadership, and newspaper advertising to reach its clientele.The mission is to provide the highest quality of care to its patients, outstanding training to its students, and a stimulating, professional, and friendly environment for its staff.

The vision is to be a leading role player in the change process in the health services of Ireland, through the establishment of a range of clinical directorates. The development of service links and formal academic in which sister hospitals become components of the regional and academic networks (Ward, 2004). The hospital anticipates a continuation of strengthening international and national role to excel in inpatient management, provide quality health care, and innovate.The hospital provides acute care and emergency services throughout the 54 medical specialties to more than 290,000 people within the local community.

There are more than 50 hospitals in the county of Dublin (Patterson, 2008). The population of the Greater Dublin Area is about 1.8 million people and expected to reach 2.2 million people by 2020 due to immigration from the European Union and Nigeria. More than 15% of the population of Dublin is foreign-born.
