Organisation Culture Analysis: EIT Auckland Student’s Name Institution Executive Summary The focus of this report is to examine the organisational culture as it is practices in EIT Auckland. The interview specifically was directed towards exploration of EIT Auckland business environment in relation to its organisation culture. Eastern Institute of Technology Auckland was established in 1996 and is currently, situated in Queens Street. The education institution offers such academic programs as graduate and post graduate diploma we well as Master programs. It is important to note that EIT is a partly government-owned tertiary educational facility with three other institutions; Bay, Auckland as well as Gisborne in New Zealand. The faculties within this institute include; The faculties of humanities, education and health sciences. The facility mostly serves international students with more than 400 international students being offered the opportunity to study within each academic year that arrive from more than 40 different countries across the globe. The focus of this report rests with the examination of organizational culture within the learning institution and thereafter, provides necessary findings on the different aspects raised within the surveys and interview conducted. Organisational culture is deemed to be an important facet in any entity because it facilitates different improvement mechanisms like economic performance. It helps an organisation come up with effective strategies that focuses on the need for change and flexibility as well as and thus, it is attributed with distinctive creative problem solving and risk taking mechanism (Khosla, 2015). It can either be used to promote or inhibit institutional based transformations depending on if the underlying cultural frameworks have been matched with the objectives of the proposed changes (Khosla, 2015). The institution can adopt organisation culture model because it fosters a structural stability elements for its operations. Through this element, EIT Auckland can achieve the concept of group identity , which helps to avail a distinctive meaning and predictability of all relationships created within the institution at any given moment in time. Investigation Procedure The report has gathered sufficient data through two forms of collection approaches. First, necessary data has been gotten from the interview done with EIT Auckland Human Resource Representative. The interview has been done to find out the different ways the institutions’ promotes the aspect of culture as a whole. Secondly, the report also uses data from a student survey model that was distributed to both the local and international students in order to investigate how they feel about the institution in regards to whether it promotes their different cultural aspects or not. Findings Socialisation Aspect Given that the institution constitutes students different countries and ethnic background, the element of socialisation is deemed to be crucial aspect. It is important to note that once a group of people agrees to conform to a specific culture then it becomes quite possible to transfer it to other new comers (Su, Yang, & Yang, 2012). Socialisation allows all concerned parties to gain a feeling of permanent status and thereafter, enjoys an opportunity that comes with being able to share group secrets. Auckland is deemed to be a very popular city with international-based students with a larger percentage of this group showing interest to study within each and every academic year. As a metropolitan city, Auckland enjoys a vast degree of world-class facilities like international flights, fairly planned rail and road networks as well as a diversified cultural background. The facility offers different forms of events on a monthly-basis like the recently-held Halloween Party as well as balling related activities. In fact, in order to facilitate the socialisation process, the campus offers these events at affordable prices so that a huge percentage of the price is taken care of by the institution with the student only needed to pay an insignificant portion left. Most of the students help one another and even respect each other despite of the different racial and ethnic background. Accessibility of Information/ Support From the student’s surveys done, it can be noted that most of them feel that they receive enough level of support for both class-related and other co-curriculum activities. A significant portion of these students feel that they can easily make friends within the facility without any major form of discrimination. Subsequently, they also feel that the institution has continued to make significant improvements in facilitating easier online registration of courses and other forms of events. This way, the students are guaranteed of enough time resource saving, which is used in other productive ways (U Khan, Usoro, Majewski, & Kuofie, 2010). Through the interview, it can be seen that EIT Auckland offers a wider range of facilities for all students registered within each academic year. For instance, these students are allowed to use kitchen facilities at their own conveniences. Notably, any level of crucial information is passed to students in the very basic formats that are accessible by all. A perfect example is the use of notice boards where students can learn of different activities under session and those that are to be offered in the future. Most distinctively, EIT Auckland offers student welfare support programs. Assistance for the students is offered in terms of extensive and fairly-reachable counselling programs. In truth, it can be seen that the facility offers distinctive academic support and personality forms of assistance to all students regardless of their racial and ethnic backgrounds (Huhtala, Feldt, Hyvönen, & Mauno, 2013). The most likely form of academic support provided by the institution involves the identification of those students that are likely to fail and assisting them to focus on improving on the studies, conducting a monthly student analysis report that will provide enlightenment on the different support groups needed for providing firsthand assistance. These support programs also offer distinctive tools as well as other support packages that are deemed necessary for students to complete their courses successfully. Communication & Value Most of the students within the facility; both local and international based regardless of gender, indicated that their respective teachers were far much enthusiastic about the notion of teaching and communicating to students. Consequently, it is also noted that most of the students feel that the teachers always incorporate their views prior to making any decisions that will likely affect their courses. However, the campus has still not embraced the modern forms of communications like the use of social media platform. The facility has not taken to establish any form of web-based communication strategy except electronic mails, which has become a conventional way of reaching people. Training & Development The facility offers intensive forms of training and development to most of its student population. For instance, it ensures to offer advice on matters related to job opportunities so that different faculties are fairly-equipped with programs aimed at sensitising final-year students on matters related to possible job openings, resume-writing skills as well as impact them with skills needed for preparing for interviews. Some of the organisation trainings offered by the facility are distinguished in accordance with the course offered. Some of the popular examples of these trainings include meeting conferences, as well as video conferencing or rather VC. Results Intensive level of discussion was conducted with some of the student’s participants through a closed form questionnaires to determine their different opinions of the EIT Auckland. The size of the participants was somehow significant in comparison to the overall population of the institution. Communication & Value The teaching fraternity make sure that they provide necessary teaching materials to all students and also provide support systems to them as well. However, it is recommended that EIT Auckland make efforts to adopt new modern forms of communication strategy like social media platform in order to make it easier for students to access relevant information. The institution should come up with a workable Twitter or Facebook handle where students and teachers can easily engage and in turn, access important information.
