Media Digitalization Institution: Name: Media Digitization Digitization is the process of converting data or images through a digital form. New media comes about as the process of media digitization. Some of new media objects formed on computers lead to immediate, digital deliverable objects. In new Media, changing continuous data into a numerical form is called digitization. When new media objects are formed on computers, they are manipulated in numerical form implying that the product starts as a digitized entity.[JBa11] Diversity of information Diversity of information, or media diversity, as the concept is mostly referred to in democratic countries, is considered to be of important value and a focal objective of communications and media policy. Diversity in media refers to media content; Variety in news media delivery, for instance, may be measured in terms of distribution of attention across news categories, political stances, news genres, cultural foci, and so on.[Lei99] Mass media are the pre-eminent tool for people to make politicians hear what they feel is politically crucial, desirable and needed. The more media display reflective diversity, the higher their expressive quality for democracy; that is, the more they politically express the existing opinions, ambitions, norms and values in society. On the other hand, media being as open as is logically possible may increase the cognitive quality of opinions, discussions and arguments in society. In facing people with divergent information and opinions, media may sharpen people’s know how and opinions, either by falsifying or by changing people’s initial knowledge and opinions.[EdP07] Many theorists suggest that diversity well flourishes in a free marketplace of ideas : if people can freely enter this marketplace to trade in information and opinions, without any stray backs by government or any other individual, then we may expect to see cultural variance and diversity to happen. The digital revolution in communications and information transmission has brought convergence, explosive informatization and exponential diversification to our society’s communications channel. Information transmission, via public and private media and via the Internet, keeps on increasing geometrically. In addition, there is increasing diversification of contents for certain groups, and diversification of communication roots and outlets, diversifying the freedom of choice for end users, informatization, convergence and diversification force communications policy to opt for new foci. [Anv07] Media convergence Convergence implies coming together of two or more things, On the one hand, convergence can be seen as joining of different equipment and tools for production and distribution of news. Media convergence also encompasses the flow of information across various platforms in the media cycle. This highlights the fact that media audiences are crucial in the distribution of content. The flow of media content across several platforms shows the role of media audiences in convergence. The issue is multifaceted. It can be examined from various spheres. These spheres include technological advancements and social factors in any society. Media convergence is a continuous process. The concept of media convergence reflects on the interaction between various media platforms. Media convergence should not be seen as a replacement of the old order in media practices. It is a drive towards building a healthy interaction between various media platforms. Media convergence should be seen as a cooperation and collaboration between previously unconnected media forms and platforms. [Jay00] The concept of media convergence constitutes an interaction the old forms of media and new order. Therefore, the concept of media convergence cannot be understood without proper reflection of the new and old forms of media. These terms can be explained more clearly using the example of the television industry and its development over the vast period. A paradigm shift in media from analog media to the current digital edge is a reflection of how far media has come. The change from analog to digital media is at the center of every debate on media convergence. The term analogue describes something that resembles another exactly, in that signals transmitted through television can be viewed as being analogous to the light as well as sound of the actual scene. Analogue media involved the use of separate and independent forms. This is because there was a need for varied materials, properties and apparatuses. With the coming of digital code, the situation changed greatly and opened new possibilities for media development and convergence, for instance, there emerged new forms in social and economic circles. Producers and consumers interacted closely heralding in a new era[Tim10] Remedition Remediation has a long history, for their role and defines ideology that dates back to the Renaissance period during the invention of linear perspective. Defined as when media changes as a result, mixing with other forms of media. It can also be defined as the combination of different forms of digital media in order to achieve a better form of media that get across the same point. Although the concept of immediacy has emerged from the time of Renaissance to current day, with manifestations in each age which is significantly different, and immediacy may mean a different thing to theorists and another to practicing artists or designers and totally different thing to viewers. The manifestation is even greater for hypermedia, which seems to offer a number of different reactions to the concept of immediacy. [Ast09] What concerns us is remediation in our present media, and here we analyze specific images, texts, and uses. Historical resonances like; painting, nineteenth-century photography, twentieth-century film, and others will be offered to assist explain the situation. At the same time, the practices of contemporary media comprise spectacle through which we can view the remediation history. Remediation may not advocate for transparency and immediacy, but the contrary. For instance in encyclopedias on the internet replace earlier printed versions with the later having abilities like addition of; sound, videos and electronic search engines and linking ability. The borrowing may take not only the content from an earlier version, but also include and refashion the earlier medium with new digital medium.[Mar03] Section 2 Divergence of information Nowadays mass media has become popular culture and an increasingly influential tool on our lives. From radios, televisions, music and internet, we are becoming overcrowded with media information. Hence depending on impact it can influence; social, economic, political, and other important areas of society. People who have knowledge of the media is often able to obtain purposeful information from it. There are eight major media concepts that are an important foundation for examining mass media and popular view. One of them is how audiences debate on meaning information. When people have different individualities, it can differ the way they comprehend information. The media provide us with a lot material upon which we build a picture of reality. Another major media concept is that media has commercial projections. Most private media companies are at business and are out to make a profit. Therefore, will try to influence their target market so that to have an interest in buying their product because of performance. A final media concept is that it has a unique aesthetic form. In order for media, to attract viewers it is mandatory that their media is displayed in a most attractive layout. There are still several other major key concepts that play important role on how audiences comprehend the meaning in the media. When we get our information form media sources, and then interpret it. As we negotiate the implication, inevitably there will be disagreements individual views, depending on our individual factors such as; culture, race and sexual aspects and many more which can shape our opinions to differ compared to others. Diversity is a main goal in achieving democracy, although the role of diversity in maintaining democracy is presumable, the diversity principle and regulatory concepts applied to communications policy seem far from reaching consensus. Among the regulatory challenges to achieving diversity goals are controversial on theoretical terms, inconsistent measurement, they interplay conflicting public interest motivations, and changes in the media system. Section 2 Digitization With the high rate of development of multimedia technology, there is a need to improvise a system where visual art forms like drawings, video, and photography can be produced and presented by computer programs. Because computers have the ability to manipulate data, the process of digitizing is central to the world of art and multimedia. A digital image is a combination of picture elements called pixels represented by numbers. These images are originally in analogue form represented by electrical current and are physical quantities. For digitization, information is converted from analogue to digital through converter chip. How much information a converter chip can handle is described as its resolution and capacity, which depends on how many bits are used for translation. A bit is the smallest discrete unit a computer can handle. It is represented by 1 or 0 where 1 represents on while 0 represents an off which is a complete oscillation of computers central processing unit. If one signal is submitted, the results in black and white photograph 16 bits and above are enough to produce quality colored photograph, 16 bit and above can produce a total of 16,777,216 color variations. The information is then placed onto storage. Cameras with internal memory or removable storage can be connected to computer through a cable and details extracted from the chip. The digitizing of data involves the use of charge storage device and an analogue-to-digital converter chip that stores information in the form of digits represented by 1s and 0s that require resolution, compression and final use of product to be considered. Being in business consumers have preferred digitalized media due to ease to handle and the quality of the presentations.[Lis08] References JBa11: , (J.
