Internet Television Name Course name Date of submission Abstract Internet television has been a unifying factor that confines together the diverse global families by feeding them with world news and updates. News-feed to people around the globe is apparently a very important event that will make the society realize and interpret the direction of order as far as ethics is concerned. Without merely leaving the concept of philosophy and communication, news-feed from media creates an aspect of informed consent amongst the global community. Therefore bringing together western and non-western cultures, we will be analyzing news from Al Jazeera and Cable Network Connection (CNN) as the social medium which are globally acceptable and communicates effectively to the concerned parties. Also we will be focusing on the differences and similarities between the two broadcasts. Introduction The news coverage by Cable News Network (CNN), which is a western TV channel, is more less the same with the news by AL Jazeera which is a non-western TV channel though some slight differences in geographical coverage. If we, to some extent focus on the history of the two channels, we realize a number of initiatives that have been put across by these broadcasts to bring together the diverse global world. International news is very crucial when it comes to political stability, economic development, social integration and the global market. Thus people from diverse cultures of the world defined by language, race, norms geographical location, lifestyle and culture requires this news in order to make mature move towards building a global community. Going back a bit to the history of Al Jazeera, which is a non-western television channel, it is an Arabic television broadcast which very independent and its headquarters is located in Doha, Qatar. It has been magnified to broadcast in multiple languages since the news is received by diverse global world. Before, the only news which ware predominant in the station was for the Arabic race. But since there is development of global community, it has diverse its international news by broadcasting over in more than 5o languages of the world and these news is reaching more than 300 countries of the world. In the year 1996, Al Jazeera launched an English broadcasting station called Al Jazeera International. Cyber News Network (CNN) is western broadcast situated at United States of America having its studios in different cities of the continent including New York and Washington DC. It is comprehensively watched in America and recently it has broadcasted its news to the global community. The language preference for the station was English but since there was an extension of its coverage, it had to diversify the mode of passing news. It established different stations that translate its news so as to cover the recommended targets which are the communities around the world. From its website (edition.cnn.com) we realize a comprehensive International news bulletin in more than six translating stations. These include, CNN Chile, CNN Espanol, CNN international, CNN Turk, CNNj (Japanese) among others in the agencies. The methodology therefore in analyzing these two Internet Television Stations will entail collection of data using quantitative methods of observation and getting the relevant insights from the information systems of the two stations. This methods therefore will give a substantial ground when reporting at what extend do the two TV networks are similar or differ. Coming to data collection, I observed top 5 stories of each television network (in this case CNN and Al Jazeera) and use the parameters of language, picture and geographical coverage in analyzing the similarities that exist between the two networks. The period of observation covers from 29th of August until 7th of September 2011. This period is a base for all the analysis done and it perhaps elucidates the existence of the similarities between the two stations. The profile information of the pre and post-existence of the stations was from the helpful information system of the two stations, that is their websites. Pictures, videos and documentaries from this website vindicated a subordinate organization of analysis since it justified the thesis statement of the similarity that exists. However, we may get some differences when it comes to coverage of the news and the location of the stations and its agencies. CNN is located in the western Culture while Al Jazeera is in the non-western culture but at end we realize how close they are in terms of international news broadcast. Therefore during this analysis, the three parameters are very crucial because it defines the whole coverage of the international bulletin. Language as the first parameter of analysis reflects the global diversity realized from different communities of the world. The study will take language as balance between the two channels. Therefore language preference in the two channels will be main focus to give a clear similarity in terms of how many cultures receives these news bulletins with full understanding. Do pictures and videos produced by CNN and Al Jazeera look similar? This will consequently help the analysis detect the predominant events in the videos. Videos that carry the same events as stated by Darcy (2004) are most likely driving towards the same agenda. The moves by each channel by use of videos and picture will be critically examined to give a clear similarity in-turn. Africa, America, Middle East and Europe are the geographical coverage of CNN and Al Jazeera. These geographical areas will give a magnitude of international news coverage that will facilitate the scheme of analysis since the two channels broadcasts over these regions. Therefore the similarities in this case will arise that will defend the thesis statement of the essay giving a statement of their comparisons. For detailed and comprehensive analysis of the similarities of international news bulletin broadcasted through two different channels, we will be focusing on the top 5 stories on the two stations that is Cyber News Network (CNN) and Al Jazeera over the past two weeks in consistent. Main Body News agenda Lets us first identify the top 5stories on the two channels that will in turn give us the news worth of the organization. For CNN we have; The story of Libya where by we are having a rebel and the president is surrounded. Order in Indian court is disrupted by the bomb last and the police are in control of the situation. The announcement of fire in the Syrian city which has caused an alarm to the police. Pakistani suicide bombers targeting a military official. Famine crisis in Mogadishu For Al Jazeera; The story of Gaddafi that denies that act of flying to Niger The reports of death in Syria. Russian plane crash that killed the hokey players. Politics in America about Republicans candidates who faced off over jobs. Delhi blast that occurred. From this point therefore we realize the informative concepts of the news in the two channels. The predominant news values happening are issues with political stability, economic concern, terrorist and natural disasters. The two channels carry apparently more less the same magnitude of broadcasting this news to the globe. We see the main news agenda of the two channels are similar since they have both the informative content from the hot spot geographical regions of the world. This therefore builds a hybrid of news bulletin captured by different races of the world. Apart from the predominant values and news agenda of the stories, lets as have a focal point in terms of language preference of the two channels and we bring out a similarity. From the website of CNN (edition.cnn.com/WORLD) we have the section of international edition where one can change the language preference of the news to suite his own understanding. The same concept is found in Al Jazeera website (/english.aljazeera.net/) where by one can translate the news bulletin so as to give a meaning. According to CNN website (edition.cnn.com/WORLD), there is Arabic understanding of the news, English (UK), Latin America, Turkish and Japanese. It happen the same in Al Jazeera where one can change language preference. If we also analyze the geographical coverage of this news, they cover almost the same area of reach. With the CNN, it covers most part of America, Africa, Asia, Europe and Middle East. The geographical coverage of Al Jazeera includes Africa, Asia-Pacific, central and south Asia and Middle East. We therefore realize similar target by the two channels since the geographical coverage is more likely the same. This gives the aspect of unidirectional distribution of international bulletin. Videos and pictures of this news carry similar activities in the two channels. For instance the top story of Libyan president, Gaddafi, on Monday the videos in CNN had UN troops same as the videos by Al Jazeera which also had UN troops. This may give a proposition that the videos are from the same agencies. This similarity also appears in the news of republican audition by the candidates (News from America) where the two videos looked alike. The story of Libya has been a predominant event in the two channels. Every step that is taking place on the ground of Libya is being reported by the two medium. This therefore makes us realize the common agenda by the two organizations. The story also reflects the elite community of the world which informs the rest their way of order in the country. Both CNN and Al Jazeera give a comprehensive report of Libya. The stories being reported through these two broadcasts not only have an interest on the marginalized but rather have a global perspective. All the global cultures have been integrated together by the similar news bulletins which depicts emphasis on global events. According to Sanjoy (2010), internet television gives a social network that cuts through all races defined by language, color, geographical location and difference in lifestyle. He added by stating that Internet Television, since it is an art, it an educative component in the global community. In conclusion therefore we realize that the two affiliated organizations defined by their similarities have a common goal. Both emphasize on political grounds (stability), economic involvement and global welfare. In general, CNN and Al Jazeera are aligned together by the similarities in their news broadcasts which explicit a universal agenda as far as global diversity is concerned.
