Extract of sample "The Strength and Length of Our Friendship"

I know that I will always appreciate these aspects of you. In fact, it is because of these that, within the last year, I have grown especially fond of you and have been thinking a lot about you. I know that I have been acting weird around you and kind of distant, but I was not ready to let you know how I felt. I did not want things to become awkward between us, so I have been keeping my feelings inside.

However, due to the strength of our friendship, I feel that I would be insulting you and our friendship if I did not confide in you about how I feel. We have been through so much together, growing up together, and my feelings for you have only increased over the years. While I would love something more to come from our friendship, if you do not return my feelings, then I would like your help in figuring out what I should do about these feelings that I have been having. Your friendship means a lot to me as it is; I would rather have you as just a friend, rather than nothing, so I am willing to make this work in whatever way you feel comfortable with, and that we can further benefit our friendship. I do not want my feelings to get in the way of an already amazing friendship.

If you are willing to, I would also be willing to give us a try without others knowing. We can try out something more than a friendship under the radar, just until we can know if we can work this out or not. We could keep this on the down low until we understand more of what we want to do, and if we want to further our relationship. Again, if you are unwilling to do this, then I am up to working out something else with you. I would like to take our friendship to the next level, yet I also want to protect what is already there between us; your feelings in regard to this are very important to me, and I do not want to hurt them or do anything that might damage the friendship that we already have.

My friendship with you has grown into a deep love and respect that I could never have thought possible. I would like to see something come of this, yet I am also willing to settle on the wonderful friendship that we have always had. I am going to miss you this summer while I am traveling. I hope that this will give us a chance to realize how much we mean to each other and how much we depend on each other. This will also give you time to consider all I have told you and let you come to a decision. Perhaps we can get together when I come back and we can talk about everything. I would rather have told you all of this to you face-to-face, but I have been scared and worried about all that I have been feeling. I was also unsure of how you would respond to what I would tell you, so I decided that a letter would be best.

You will always be considered one of my best friends, so I know that we can get through this, no matter how we have to handle it. I know that whatever comes out of the friendship between you and me will be for the best, so while I would like something more than a friendship, I am not worried about what the final decision is. As long as I have you in my life, I will be happy. Please, let me know how you feel, and what we should do about ourselves. Your thoughts and feelings still mean everything to me, and I want to work things out for both of us. I hope you take into deep consideration all that I have confided to you in this letter. Read More
