Cultural Diversity in Perris: Introduction: Perris, situated in South California, has been remarkable for its multicultural diversity. In the golden state, immigrants from all over the world settled here along with the native people. This wider domain of traditions, religions and diversified community illustrates Perris as the unified city with diversity. Here, I will like to depict the connectivity of my culture with other residents living in the same community but hailing from different race or a religion. The growth of racism in this era of globalization and digital revolution has shown a fluctuating trend over decades. My research will be just a curtain raiser of the current scenario in the modernized community existing in the city of Perris. (California’s cultural resources, n.d) The research is based on the study of culture, which I belong to, and the task is to analyze the cultural diversity existing in the community. The role of racism will be ploughed in different sectors and a relationship between the different members of the community will be portrayed in the following sections. It will also illustrate the qualities of a leader and their role in bringing sustainability in future. The offensive smell of racial discrimination may be transformed into a sweet fragrance of unity in diversity. Resemblance: Hailing from a white American culture, I have observed the physical differences of people from my culture from people who are different with respect to race, creed or religion. Among the other races, the ethnic and racial mix comprises of Hispanic, African American, American Indian and Filipino. In comparisons to my race, the physical traits of people belonging to the Hispanic culture usually possess dark brown hair, light skin and brown eyes. They are usually tanned or dark in complexion. We are generally in possession of white skin color. This has rather become a symbolism of my race. On the other hand, there are other Hispanics who resembles me, in terms of character traits. Hispanics is a type of ethnicity and not a race. The African Americans generally have curly hair, and very black and sun burnt skin color. They have been born from black family of Africa. Again, the physical traits of Filipino are characterized by blonde hair, blue eyes, pale skin and pointed nose. They even resemble the Chinese culture sometimes having a blunt nose, almond shaped eyes. Their face looks much like an oval shaped geometric figure. The Indian American has a sharp feature of an aquiline nose, brown skin, and circular, intense eyes. Though there are some who have a fixed clear cut jaws, and their facial traits resembles that of a square. Some members even have angular faces with a pointed chin. The complexion of the members of my community has wide range of variations. People with both fairer and dark complexion (Filipino) dwell in my community. (Demographics, n.d) Leaders’ reaction: The political authorities always have biased nature towards the natives of South California. In spite of being from White culture, the ethnicity has changed my family and me to adopt this Mexican culture, dominated in my community. The growing popularity of economic and recreational status of Perris has also evolved a new demand for the residents of South California. People, who are like me, are treated with a touch of indifference. From, decades immemorial, several official rules and regulations have forced many people of South California to change their ethnicity to white. In the 20th century also, it has been observed a rise of legal standards based on racial discrimination. Even the employment opportunities are not equal. The rate of unemployment is increasing day by day. With respect to this, members of my race are treated with more respect and loyalty. The Hispanics race, which constitutes the highest amount of population, is neglected on several grounds. As far as I know, the Mexican ancestors have been tortured under the colonial rule of Britain. At this time of colonization, the leaders used to discriminate on the basis of caste, creed, and religion. Even after independence, the mode of discrimination changed when the native people select the government officials. An effort has been made by us to outline the distance between the slaves and the owners of the slaves i.e. my white race. This scenario still exists in my community. Here, the government officials even today discriminate the residents of Perris on the basis of caste or their race. With the pace of globalization, the rise of social dislocation and income disparity has taken place. (Husing, September 20, 2005) The people’s reaction: All the people who are like me are treated equally and there is no preconceived opinion against anybody. The other races, like the Hispanics, the Afro-Americans, and the Asian Americans have a good relationship with each other. With the global world, everyone in my community also thrusts the confinement open. Everyone is free from the bondage of one’s culture or traditions. The high volume of Mexican culture has not eroded my traditions and heritage values. Marriages between the castes are becoming a common event. All celebrations and festivals are enjoyed together without any impositions of restrictions on people coming from different castes. The members of the community, which come from all sorts of races shows an upward trend in intensifying the association among the all like and unlike people. (Wieviorka, pp.119-122) Work manual and culture: With the technological advancement in the city, Perris is becoming more popular with respect to recreation and multicultural diversity. Even in the budget of 2009-2010, it has been evident that preservation of workforce and the development of working environment are being implemented. The precipitation of global recession has still kept Perris wet. Still, the government is trying hard to increase the sales revenue and the property sales of the city to recover it from this critical situation. Thus, keeping this in mind, the development of human resources is enhanced by the incorporating the names of the people from my community and especially people who resembles my race. In our texts that I read at my institute also has description of the work done by people like us. Still, there is no such mandatory requirement of including the tales of culture and ethnicity of the residing people. Thus, information regarding the people like me is usually not present in the texts or in workers manual. Although, the several works done by people hailing from both Mexican culture and the White non-Hispanic culture are given in the texts and even at the employee manual in an equal-proportionate amount. Media and Perris: In today’s world, media has a far-stretching hand and so there is the communication and networking buzz all around the globe. Even in the local news and event or other occasions, people belonging to my prestigious white culture are in the spotlight of media. In several cultural programs, or sports, the media has always been successful to capture the current issues and events going in the city. There is no massive discrimination against any person on the basis of caste, creed or religion. Participation in drama, acting, news reporting, editing etc have been evident in the media. Even skilled personnel are selected as top media executives and other mass communication programmers from members like me. People of my race do get an opportunity in the media to show off their skills. In every aspect, the local media do take into account the festivals, which I celebrate, and even in order to develop the quality of the programs, our views are also considered. The several characters playing in the drama that are shown in the television also influence my family, friends and neighbors. Thus, it is very much evident that media with the increasing pace of globalization has helped in bringing drastic unity in a culturally diversified community. (Husing, September 20, 2005). Difference: Leaders and Me In the political backdrop, the racism has not been experienced among my members in the community I live in. Though, in the days of post-colonization, disputes rise to seek one’s identity among my white members, today the cultural boundaries are getting melted. The association between the non-white Hispanics and us are changing in terms of its intensity and depth. Many officials and government authorities are in fact appointed from among the people like me. Mexican people neither disregard me and my people nor they show and personal grudge against us. The physical feature of these individuals does have resemblance but most of the times, it is not so. Even an individual also varies from different perspectives from another. This depicts that in spite of the similarity; there can be genital differences between members of my race. The persons selected as the leaders to run the economy of Perris is different from the respect of the qualities and the skills of an individual. In a leader, we definitely search for the quality to lead the world and manage diligently the city. The major difference is that I am primarily concerned with my career and the journey to accomplish my dreams. A leader is basically concerned about the welfare of the citizens and empowers a skill to bridge the gap between individuals of diversified castes and races. As I know, in every economy, there is reservation for the minority group of the respective city. This policy is also considered in any educational institutes or government offices also. The race that is almost a minority is the group of Filipino. They constitute about 1.5 % (Demographics, n.d) of the total population with respect to the Hispanics. We, the white Non-Hispanic have a reasonable share of 22.8 %.( Demographics, n.d). This bestowed us and other races with an added advantage to have quotas or reserved seats in any government organization of my community. Even the interests of the minority people are considered while implementing any policy or development strategies for the city. The leaders of the community flaunt about their positions and sometimes they only think about the elite sections of the community and serve the interests of them. The philanthropic spirit of them is completely wiped out in this era, to pursue success and reach zenith of fame. Unlike me, the leaders also have potential to think about the short-run as well as the long run development of the city. Leaders are such that the voters look upon them as the savers of Perris, which is not at all apply for me even as academic leader. (Husing, September 20, 2005). A problem and its solution: The major problem, in Perris is that the globalization era has accompanied the devils of race discrimination too. So, as an individual, my only task will be to eradicate this discrimination among the people on the basis of their ancestral origin. This change is very much necessary as well as sufficient for the sustainable economic development. I can achieve this in my community by reducing all the barriers against the minority races and other castes of white Non- Hispanic and Filipino. Liberalization practices of all the restrictive rules and regulations should be adopted in order to make the future of the native people as well as the immigrants certain and secure. The environment should be framed in such a way that each individual should feel secured and safe. A peaceful living is what I will ensure among the multicultural community. If only, I can accomplish my dream of becoming a leader, not a nominal but a philanthropist to give my people and the other members a beautiful world to breathe in. Any fear or feeling of insecurity should be properly monitored and officials should be hired to take into consideration the desires and comments on the political authorities of the city. If any person is unsatisfied with the working of the city, then I will take immediate steps to reform it .Any policy that should be implemented will reflect the people’s credibility on me. Even, venture to open up more business or industries should be fostered by me, to bring economic growth as well as economic development hand in hand. (Husing, September 20, 2005) Concepts related: The concepts that relate to race, is the cultural differences and the general physical traits of the people. Then, the study of minority groups and consideration of their interests are related with the concept of race. Even, in Perris, with a dominant Mexican life also, I observe the cultural differences and also the minority sections of the society, as in this case, we white men, to represent the city in media, educational institutions and also government offices. The word ethnicity is getting merged with race. Ethnicity is defined by various manners and behaviors of a particular group of members. Thus, in my project, the Hispanic denotes the ethnic races, which have been originated from the indigenous ancestors. Then me and other white non- Hispanics also represents the section of the community, which no more belongs to a different race but rather possess separate ethnicity. ( Wieviorka, pp.119-122) Conclusion: The thesis depicts how my community is a blend of several communities and the unity in a cultural diversity. It is shown that various races are immigrants from all across the world and they have settled in my community of South California. Though, the race discrimination has been prevalent in different sector, but the pace of it shows a downward trend. This instills in me, to have the zeal to foster growth and improve the standard of living of my community. Along with the development of tourism to increase sales revenue, the educational background and the path of industrialization should be enhanced to achieve a sustained growth in per capita income. The involvement of all people coming from different race has been evident in the world of media and politics. The only aim, which I can take as my future career, is to improve the multicultural city and to establish a law against the practice of racial discrimination.
