Culture Paper Part I Housing discrimination involves unequal treatments towards a family or an individual based on race, sex, nationality and religion. Racial or ethnic differences have been in existence in the American society from a prolonged period of time. The African- Americans have been the worst sufferers in the United States of America since the 18th century. Several attempts have been made in the 20th century to provide equal rights and values to the Black Americans and enhance the civil life of the western society. Despite the attempts made, there are some conflicts that still exist among people regarding the acceptance of Black Americans in the western society. Black Americans are facing some issues related to affirmative action, racial profiling and federal controversies in the modern world. These issues have affected the development of the entire American society. Racial profiling is being practiced in the American society drastically. Important federal agencies such as Immigration and Customs Department have stated that they rely on racial discrimination. The main reason due to which these agencies practice racial discrimination is the safety and security of country. Racial profiling arises because all the immigrants are not treated equally in the immigration and the customs department. It has been observed that people belonging from different religion and country are generally detained and thoroughly checked while other citizens of America are minutely checked. Discrimination based on racial profiling is growing day by day and the black Americans are the most common victims of such problems (Wilkins & Williams, 2008). Whenever an African-American citizen of the United States enters the border from a foreign country their luggage are thoroughly checked and they are detained for long hours in the airports. Some of the citizens even miss their plane due to intense checking procedures. Racial profiling is practiced on a large scale in the American society. Some of the African-Americans also believe that racial profiling is the 21st century version of slavery and inequality. According to statistical data, it has been observed that around 12-13 percent of the African-American populations are drug users however 38 percent of populations get arrested for drug-related crimes. Based on the police reports it has also been recorded that the minority group of America get arrested quite often because they mostly belong to the lower group of the American society. This shows that the law-making system is not efficient and the Black populations of America are the worst sufferers of racial profiling (Sigelman, 2004). The federal government of the United States of America should take quick initiatives to overcome the issues that give rise to racial profiling. Former President of United States of America, Lyndon B. Johnson introduced affirmative action in the year 1965. Affirmative action states that all employers and agencies should encourage equality in their work culture. Previously, the hiring patterns of different companies were different because of huge discrimination that existed towards African-Americans. Although African-Americans were hired in the companies were they were not treated equally. During promotions they were disregarded and left with their ongoing job responsibilities. Most of the companies did-not take any action against criticisms and conflicts based on color. The affirmative action was introduced in the society with very little effect, which made the life of Black citizens even worse. The White community treated the Black citizens as a burden of the society. During the emergence of social conflicts the Black citizens are treated as the convicts’ in spite of their innocence. The Black citizens were provided the voting rights in America but they were neglected by the federal government and the police system because the law-making system was generally headed by the White staffs. The conflicts that occurred so-far in United States of america had terrible effect in the life of African-American citizens because most of the youths were tortured and penalized for crimes they did-not commit. The students and employees of the black society are still being suffered in some parts of America; hence strong policies are required to be implemented against race. Black Americans have been the worst sufferers in the society due to federal controversies. In the 21st century the disputes related to federal controversies have increased drastically due to extreme lobbying of the political parties. Since most of the ministers are whites, they have the tendency to discourage the black community and force them to leave their country. Discriminations are high in some federal organizations and the black Americans are not provided all kind of facilities easily. For example, the white Americans have the leverage to use water4 as per their requirements however the lower class of black community are obstructed from using too much water. The American society is full of inequalities due to race and color. The schools and colleges also practice racism in several places. This trend of racism must come to an end for the betterment of the American society. Part II Racial discrimination has plagued the American society and brought unnecessary hardships to those affected from the issues related to racism. There are many interventions that have been incorporated by many people in order to overcome the issues related to racism but the issues still exists in the society. The federal government and the higher groups believe that discreet education and knowledge about life has the potential to remove racism from the society. Though the intervention is being applied rapidly but there are only limited changes observed with the help of such interventions. Modern society does not only trust on theoretical ideas whereas they also look for practical implications. In order to develop real-time examples there is a requirement of group practices against racism. The schools and colleges can play a vital role to remove racism related issues from the country. Most of the schools have their annual day competitions wherein they perform in front of huge audiences. Teachers should motivate students to perform plays that disregard racism. These kinds of acts can reduce the occurrence of conflicts that arise due to racism. The youths are the most important citizens of the society. Youths can play pivotal role in the process of reducing racism issues. Government and media partners can also play crucial role in the reduction of racism by providing continuous advertisements on televisions against racism. It is very essential to understand that the trend of racism is not developed among people from birth. Each and every person learns about racism from the surrounding people. Racism is developed among people with their perceptions. It has been observed that the black community of the United States suffers from the adverse effects of racism compared to the white population. The most important reason due to which the black community suffers more is due to the ignorance they receive from the white community. The black population wants to get equal rights and respect among the society. Though some of the African-Americans have gained the respect in the society but most of them are the victims of racism. The private owners and the elite-class white people treat the African-Americans as a different class in the society. There should be strict law and order in place to save people from the wrath of racism and the conflicts that can emerge from them. In order to generate equal opportunities for everyone in the society the law and order must be parallel for everyone. The police department should emphasize on hiring more black people because they can bring equality and justice. In the 21st century also it has been observed that most of the black youths are being treated as convicts without any guilt, especially with respect to drug and mob related issues. It is appropriate that some of the black youths are at fault but most of the innocent youths are also being punished by the police due to lack of information and technology. The police system should develop a fair trial zone wherein all citizens of America can be treated equally. Punishment should be equal for the black and the white communities. This factor can reduce the problems associated with racism. The customs and the immigration departments should have advanced technology to check people without detaining them for long hours. The detention procedure should be equal for the white community as well. The security and safety measures should be performed in a unique style, which can be helpful for people to trust. Most of the crimes that occur in United States of America are generally done by local white convicts or people residing in foreign countries having destructive motives. The police and the inspection departments target innocent black convicts against the criminal activities that occur in the country. It is essential for the federal department to incorporate some rules to protect the rights of people. In order to eradicate racism completely from the society the perception of people should also be changed. The white community of America should implement new remedies that can lead to social unions with the black community. It is important to understand that the black community is generally violent in nature because they are afraid of the other people of the society (Free, 2003). The African-Americans have suffered greatly in the past and they have terrible history which does not allow them to mix up with the other people of the society. In order to get involved with each other and increase the friendship the white community would have to be patient with an accepting nature. The educational institutes can play a vital role in the life of people. Children are motivated by parents and teachers and they can be taught to have a friendly nature. This incorporation would reduce the amount of tensions that exist in the 21st century. In the United States of America the celebrities posses great recognition and people have great faith on their celebrities. The celebrities, especially actors and directors can develop a platform which could change the perception of people. With the help of movies and videos the important people of the American society can communicate some messages that can eliminate racism from the society. The African-Americans are leading a better life in the 21st century as compared to the 19th and the 20th centuries but several issues have refrained them from mixing up with other people freely. The lower class of the black community should be given some priorities and opportunities in order to reduce the tensions that have aroused from racism. The American society itself has been a victim of racism from a prolonged period of time and the issues can-not be corrected suddenly but the people and the government can make sufficient changes that can be accepted by everyone in the society.
