Based on the environmentalists’ assertions that had been presented by Carbaugh, it had been expressed that trade liberalization leads to a condition referred to as “race to the bottom” in terms of the environmental standards (2004). There are different aspects discussed in terms of the effects but the main concern is related to environmental standards. There are two conflicting sides that regard the effects of trade liberalization on environmental standard. One side perceived the significant relationships between the two while another.

The main objective of the study is to represent the group who believes that the trade liberalization will not lead to “race to the bottom” effect in environmental standards. Based on the said argument, it is a major aim to be able to discuss the different reasons that can be presented to represent the view. The assertions of the group can be considered rooted to the continuous progressing concept of trade liberalization. In relation to the said scenario, constant interest on the possible effects that it can bring about to different aspects of the economy and the society is the main topic of interest, specifically the environmental policies and standards.

One of the main arguments is related to the view that the negative effects of the trade liberalization are still a myth since no evidences can be traced. Such effects are specifically related to the process of globalization that is viewed by some group that can set off the “race to the bottom” wherein the different participating economies in the international community specifically in labor and environmental standards (Drezner, 2000). The deterioration of environmental standards can be considered as a complex process that can be triggered by the synergy of different factors.
