s because of this reason that the interpretation of the art works generally assumes difficulty and one encounters the same difficulty when analyzing the works of the great painters like Michel Angelo and Leonardo da Vinci. Michael Angelo’s “Fall of Adam and Eve” and Leonardo da Vinci’s “Creation of Eve” are the two art works set here to compare and contrast. Even though the historical background of these two paintings is the same, one can view the differences in their usage of technique and elements in these works.

The historical elements of these two works are based on the creation of men by God and the interruption of the evil power which lead them to destruction. In Michael Angelo’s “Fall of Adam and Eve”, the history is that God created Adam and Eve and restrained them from eating the forbidden fruit. The evil force Satan persuades Eve to eat the forbidden fruit with sugar coated words. Satan points out to his ability to speak after tasting the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge. Satan’s inducement towards them and their inclination to taste the forbidden fruit are clearly depicted in this painting by Michael Angelo.

In the Biblical concept Eve eats the fruit first and then lures Adam to eat. This Biblical concept is in contrast with the concept of Michael Angelo. In his view both Adam and Eve stand on the same side of the tree and without the temptation of Eve, Adam eats the fruit. After tasting the fruit of the forbidden tree they have the feelings of sexual lust which they had not experienced before. It may be because of this reason Dürer, Albrecht remarked: “Adam and Eve are examples of a humanist conception of the body.

” (Albrecht, 2009). The historical background in Leonardo da Vinci’s “Creation of Eve” is that after the creation of Adam God understood the need of a companion for him.
