According to (Erangler and Stolberg New York Times Oct 9 2009) some democrats are still unsure whether he deserved it. Many argue that this prize should have been given to him some years later when he would have accomplished more achievements because if any one of his peace initiatives in either Iraq or Afghanistan fails then contrast between this prestigious prize and the U.S. foreign policy could ruin his political career. The impact of this award makes President Obama a universally respected figure in that he has changed the world's perception of the U.S by changing it from super power status to a more idealistic country especially in the field of nuclear weaponry. The fact that he is fighting two wars one in Iraq and another in Afghanistan yet he is still seen as a peaceful leader in the global arena is a plus for him in many political circles. Winning this peace prize empowers him even more to take some initiatives to move things forward in currently stalled peace processes such as the Israeli-Palestinian peace process.
