In fact, there are many parameters that need to be examined in order to formulate a valid assumption regarding the role of ‘mechanical function’ of blood vessel especially in the response of patients to specific treatment. Because of this fact, it is necessary that several models are developed which are going to be evaluated as of their applicability by the medical practitioner involved in each particular case. Current study examines especially the structure and the effectiveness of a series of blood vessel constitutive models as they have been included in the paper of Vito and Dixon published in the Annual Review of Biomedical and Engineering (2003).

The specific study presents the most significant models that have been designed in order to represent the mechanical properties of blood vessel in terms that these properties – if known to the practitioners – are going to be useful towards the design and the implementation of the appropriate treatment in patients that suffer from health problems caused by the ‘dysfunction’ of veins and arteries. The particular topic has been chosen because of its significance for the design of the appropriate treatment plans in cases of health problems caused because of a ‘dysfunction’ of arteries and veins.

On the other hand, there are a few models that have been designed and tested in relation with the mechanical properties of blood vessel. These models however need to be critically analyzed in order to be evaluated whether the above models can be used by medical practitioners on a daily basis in terms that a situation (health problem) needs an emergent arrangement. In other words, can the models presented in the paper of Vito and Dixon (2003) be applied in all cases of health problems or they have to be alternated in order to meet the requirements of each particular situation?

Moreover, are these models applicable in practice or they are just
