Child Abuse Child abuse is a terrible crime that no child should ever have to be to. We need to tough laws to deal with this situation and weneed to have vigilant social services that can remove children from compromised environments. Definitely one of the roles of government must be to protect children from those who would do harm to them. Part of the problem surely must be that many cases of child abuse go unreported (ChildWelfare.gov). It is very difficult to know what is going on in a home.

The testimony of children is not especially respected by courts and it is often a question of one persons word against anothers. There is often little evidence upon which to base a prosecution. The problem is that children are under the complete control of their parents or guardians. It is very difficult for them to report these powerful figures. So what can be done to remedy this very difficult situation? There are not a lot of good, easy solutions. One thing we can do is to increase the penalties in order to deter the crime.

But more importantly we need a community approach. We need to have people acting in their neighbourhoods and looking out for the interests of everyone. We need teachers to report to authorities when they suspect that someone is being abused. We need everyone in a community to work together to be vigilant and report suspicions of abuse when they occur. Child abuse must come out from the shadows into the sunlight.Works consulted“Child Abuse and Neglect Fatalities: Statistics and Interventions.
