Accident Victim Interview Report: Eye InjuryThe interviewee is a 32-year old male named Jack who had been working for a local hospital as a nurse for 10 years now. He sustained an eye injury at work because of a defective device, which was aggravated by low-quality medical regimen. Jack was conducting a check up of several breathing device on the 6th of June 2007. He had been thoroughly trained on the operation and maintenance of the device. Unluckily though there was a defect with an oxygen control device and an explosion of pressurized air was ejected into his eye consequently.

He instantly felt tremendous pain and went to a colleague to be examined. He was afterward put into a medical treatment as the accident caused a cataract. Jack was forced to miss work for 10 days to rest and focus on his therapy. Jack’s case was forwarded to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). The agency immediately acted in response to the complaint. OSHA is resolute to prevent further eye injuries at work. Along with nongovernmental groups and volunteers, OSHA has initiated a countrywide information movement to enhance eye safety at work.

OSHA regulations oblige employers to give employees with appropriate and needed eye safety. In order to be effectual, the eye safety gear should be of the correct kind for the potential danger and correctly fitted. Eyewear for protection should give room for air to move properly between the lens and the eye. Jack went though several surgeries in an effort to bring back his normal vision and lessen the discomfort and ache. However, his condition did not return to normal and there were problems, which it emerged were brought about by a splinter of a medical device that had been stuck in his eye for several weeks.

Jack was left with continuous difficulties with his eyesight, limiting his capacity to read, assess distances, and carry out task in the capacity as before or perform domestic chores like gardening and carpentry. The occupational injury also created problems with routines he enjoyed in the past and distressed him emotionally and psychologically. Jack strongly believed that his employer should take legal responsibility for his occupational injury as they bought defective devices, and that the medical negligence throughout his medication brought him more injuries.

Jack sought the help of his brother-in-law, who has wide-ranging experience in medical negligence and occupational injury cases, to demand for reparation for him. His brother-in-law was successful in securing compensation in the amount of $5,000. This compensation took into consideration the discomfort, pain, and distress of the injury, loss of capacity and damaged eyesight, alongside financial problems Jack experienced because of the eye injury. Jack is now trying to regain some semblance of his previous life.
