INTERNET USE TRENDS WITHIN ORGANIZATIONS al Affiliation INTERNET USE TRENDS WITHIN ORGANIZATIONS Introduction The internet is the basic modern source of communication within an organization. Information quickly spreads from the top to the bottom majorly via the emails in most of the companies. Due to the improved computer, partitioning of the internet use has since been diverged from the departmental to organizational levels. The divisions create different guidelines for the two internet users that are distinctive from one another. As the corporate and organizational level indulges in their daily operations, trends have risen from the accessibility of different information via the internet. The new information threatens the regulatory requirements as they provide conflicting information. Concerns though have risen to whether the different uses of internet guidelines are beneficial to the organization and whether the new patterns should align or contradicts the general communication patterns from the body. Investigations into this inquiry are therefore the paramount objective of the paper, articulated through discussions and evidence from the scholarly articles by different researchers. (1) Do you think that Internet use at the departmental level requires different guidelines from those used at the organizational level? Why or why not? Will or can it boost production? Organizational structure determines the operational policy and the work process of any company that the business employs. Actions as the managerial reporting, movement of knowledge, decision-making process and dissemination of information are the essential components ensured by the organizational structures (Im, Hong & Kang, 2011). The structures whether they move within the organization and between the groups levels has no inherent of being better than the other. Rather, the structures have their sole benefit to the organization that suits them well in a particular situation (Wixom & Watson, 2012). Information flow in the major organizations has been structured on a departmental level and organizational level. The corporate level can be referred to as the flow of ideas within the organization that is inherent from the other organizations branches. The department heads use their own internet rather than sharing a broader network in the whole group. The organizational level uses a different internet in communication to other regions. Many individual will argue that it’s due to the independent nature employed by the organization to ensure each unit performs to its best. Whether the idea of separating internet usage within and between the groups’ levels remains a question for debate? Operating with the same policies and work procedures means the organization has similar goals and objectives to accomplish and why separate their internet (Wixom & Watson, 2012). I agree they may become vulnerable to internet fraud by using same information line through hackers that may hinder their operations. But the use of the same internet has more benefits than separating the internet and if that’s what the organization might fear, then the risk is worth the trial. The use of same internet in organization can be termed as bureaucratic organization structure that involves many layers of management, masquerading from the most senior leaders, regional managers and to the departmental heads (Van & Van Dijk, 2011). The information further cascades to senior supervisors who work closely with the employees. By the use of same internet usage that provides the same communication channels, the time taken to make any decision within the organization is shorter since only a few individuals are involved in the process. This ensures organization work is always completed over and over again efficiently as any divergent issue that might compromise production is minimized (Wixom & Watson, 2012). The use of similar channels of communication also ensures that there is only one central of authority within the organization that provides guidelines (Im, Hong & Kang, 2011). In this regard, the culture and standards of the organization are not comprised but adhered to in all process of production. Similar use of internet ensures research and information flow are same within and between the organizations. The organization can maintain its standards in the market that does not allow their competitor to overtake them (Im, Hong & Kang, 2011). Flexibility is made possible as changes in the market trends, implementation of new technology and legal environment information can be easily cascaded down to other departments and regions. The managers can then implement the new ideas that ensure production level are increased or conforms to the new product standards (Van & Van Dijk, 2011). For instance, a new technology can be introduced that is cheap and easier to use. The management will only have to train a few people most probably the heads of departments and regions that in turn train their employees. The staff gains knowledge faster in the process that improves the productivity of the organization. (2) How might networking trends at the departmental level align or conflict with communications trends at the organizational level? Why or why not? Organizations are significantly facing an array of challenges escalating from the network trends within departments. These challenges are majorly attributed to the shifts in generations and employee becoming more knowledgeable (Tallon, & Pinsonneault, 2011). On a similar trend, enacting central means of communication has become an essential factor in organization success. The futurists Moliterno and Mahony, in their study of 2011, described the importance of communication trends aligning to the departments. They stated that performance in an organization was a majorly due to the patterns and quality of communications within departments and organizations that together formed the networks in the organization. Authorities have found leverages in information garnered through the internet. The social media provides for different experts with diverse views concerning a particular idea and now that everyone can access the Internet, more posting are expected into the future. The trusted source, therefore, becomes difficult as the information is so massive that departmental levels are confused among themselves (Tallon,& Pinsonneault, 2011). Neither can the departments prove the credibility of the network experts. The corporate levels will only then become philanthropic enough to align with the organizational communications. The information from the organizations is presumed to be accurate and can be trusted within the operations (Tallon, & Pinsonneault, 2011). The organization can always take responsibility to the outcome communications are emanating from within. The impact of communications on the organization of departments is critical to the alignment of networking within departments. Measuring Communications is the only way that the organization can be able to develop and appraise information to the departments (Moliterno & Mahony, 2011). Not only must this be solved to engage the unit more and increase the investment returns, but solutions must be found if communications between the organizations and departmental levels are to be conventional, dependence and esteemed within the company. An effective communication makes corporate trends be in line with the organizations objectives (Tallon, & Pinsonneault, 2011). As the networks continue to rise, the departments’ information is only skewed to the demand of the organization limiting conflicting issues with the management. The primary goal of aligning networking trends in units of the communication from the organizations is because all the parties have a common interest to oversee the company realizes its purpose. Maintaining same information within the organization ensures that culture that defines the standards and norms of operations remains market-driven (Moliterno & Mahony, 2011). Even if the departmental trends are to conflict, then it is only advisable not to affect the final product. Assuming a global manufacturing organization, any slight difference in the production has massive effects on the products quality. With the increasing consumer skeptics, the group may experience diverse effects on its market. Due to this negativity, the alignment of communications between departments and organization must be of priority if the operations are not to be affected. Conclusion Interaction of communication between the departmental levels and organizational levels are essential to the performance of the business. Through propagating information by the internet, a similar guideline should be used for both the two parties. The departments and organizational levels do pursue similar goals and can only work better if they subscribe to the same ideology of the central authority. The Same guideline has proved to enhance a work operation that leads to efficiency in production. Different internet guidelines might result in divergent information being applied in the organization that would comprise their output (Im, Hong & Kang, 2011). As the departments embrace new trends of the networks, they should not deviate much from the communications from the organizational level. Management is the sole authority required to provide information within an organization, and any deviation from such may have recurred passions on the outcome of the group. In a nutshell, integrating similar internet and trends within the organization has a high-performance level for any company. References Im, I., Hong, S., & Kang, M. S. (2011).
