The study seeks to compare this approach to that of the traditional doctor-patient session that have for so long defined how patients understand the nature of their disease and gain valuable insights on how to treat his. The authors found that with comparison to those that only enjoyed the experience with the doctor, those that attended the group learning sessions were far more likely to develop a broader understanding of their disease and work to implement the required steps as a byproduct of the peer support they invariably received. Although the group session in question is sponsored by health professionals, such group sessions could easily be performed by a multitude of different organizations and/or groups to help ameliorate symptoms among shareholders who suffer from such a disease.
