27 May, Detroit Institute of Arts: I made a visit to the Detroit Museum of Arts (DIA) in the mid of last month. I have shared my experience of the visit to DIA in the form of a coherent narrative in this paper. DIA is constructed on the 5200 Woodward Avenue in Detroit, Michigan (“Detroit Institute of Arts”). On all week days, the DIA remains open except for two days, i.e. Monday and Tuesday. The time for which DIA remains open varies from day to day. It is not the same for all week days. On Saturday and Sunday, the timing for visit to DIA starts at 10am in the morning and continues till 5 pm in the evening.

On Wednesday and Thursday, one can visit DIA between 10 am and 4 pm. Friday happens to be the longest day in which the visit to DIA can be made. On Friday, visitors can make a trip to DIA from 10am till 10 pm. I also visited the Museum on Friday so that I would have maximum time inside it. DIA’s collection of art is very vast. It has compiled art work from all over the world. This makes it extremely diverse in its collection. Number of artworks presently contained in DIA exceeds 60000 which came from different parts of the world.

Among all forms of art, the two that I liked the most were the classic work and the cutting edge work. The perceptions of the visitors about art are enriched through a visit to the Museum. DIA has developed partnership with quite a lot of hotels in its vicinity so that the visitors can be fully facilitated in every way and the visit can be made as enjoyable as possible. There are superb gadgets and accessories in the Museum Shop at DIA. Visitors can see few extremely nice and unique accessories in this shop, many of which are not easy to find elsewhere in the world.

I found a wonderful clock in the Museum Shop at DIA, and could not help purchasing it. It cost me $90. Unfortunately I did not have membership with the Shop. Otherwise it would have saved me full $9 as the price for members was only $81. It is shown in the picture below: “Frank Lloyd Wright Usonian Mantel Clock” (“Detroit Institute of Arts”). This year, a zoo has been started in the DIA since 23 March which is a popular exhibition of the Detroit Museum. The zoo displays more than 150 prints of animals that include but are not limited to the prints of lizards, peacocks and dolphins.

Different prints have been made by different artists and their cultures reflect in them. I particularly liked Albrecht Durer’s painting of lion that was made in the mid 1940s, the “butterfly migration map” by Jane Hammond, and the beasts of John Steuart Curry. They were extremely praiseworthy. The visit to DIA was one of the most informative and enjoyable visits to the museums I have ever made. It has instigated my thirst to know art more deeply, and I intend to visit it really soon again to quench it a bit.
