Recess, Aaahhh! As a child, people often look back and remember a time when they felt a certain way, enjoyed an activity or met a new friend. Eventsthat happen in a Childs life help to mold the person the adult turns out to be. As a child I can recall a few years in my life that are very vivid and stand out more than others. Almost every child in the world attends school. Attending school can either be a good or bad experience. For me and my experience, school was more of a burden then a place to grow and learn.

Others had fun and made the best but I did just the opposite. Around the ages of three and five, children start school. Starting school is a big step in a child’s life and is typically remembered and taken to adulthood. I can vividly recall my first day of school. My first day of school was an apprehensive and sad time in my life. Growing up in Ecuador, I was close with my mother and enjoyed being at home. Starting school was a big event for me sense I was very shy. Being shy makes starting school harder than it should be sense it is harder to make friends and socialize.

A typical day at school for me was a lonely day. I was very opposite then my sister. My sister was outgoing and easily made friends. Unlike her, I struggled with friends. My shyness made it hard for me to make friends as I kept to myself. I can recall an exact memory as I was sitting in the classroom just before recess. My school was named Santa Mariana de Jesus. The school was a great school that taught discipline but allowed for fun. Recess was at the same time every day. Other kids could not wait for recess to begin but I dreaded the thought.

To me it made the day go by even slower. As the recess bell rang, children rushed outside with excitement. I walked slowly and sat off to the side alone and by myself. This was an everyday thing. My shyness pushed other kids away. Besides recess, almost every aspect of school was just as dreadful as the next. At my school, we were required to wear a uniform. The uniform was unflattering to my figure. When I was a child I was thinner than most. My legs, arms and everything was just skinnier. My clothes did not fit right at all.

My socks would fall down. My shoes were always too big. Being unable to find clothes my size made me a little self conscious and this was likely the reason I was shy and lacked confidence. Starting out in school was a memory that I would never forget. Although the memory was hurtful, I have gained so much from my childhood. I am now a different person. Now I am more confident and have a beautiful family. I am grateful for my mother’s hard work and strength she has shown me. Without the experiences I faced at my first years of school, I would not be the person that I am today.

Thinking of what school was like for me as a child makes me often wish I could go back in time.
