We have researchers who argue that it is not desirable to force homosexuals to engage in heterosexual marital affairs as this would ruin their personal and familial life. In this respect, Andrew Sullivan purports that “homosexual fathers and mothers who are encouraged into heterosexual marriages subsequently find the charade and dishonesty too great to bear: spouses are betrayed, children are abandoned, families are broken and lives are ruined” (Persily). Thus, the proponents of gay marriage argue that homosexuals should engage in gay marriage as they are unable to lead a normal heterosexual married life.
They also argue that homosexuality is not a mental illness and is an inherent character of humans that should be treated similarly to the case of heterosexuals. Both morality and religion condemn gay marriage; the concept of gay marriage is against the teachings of Christianity as it upholds that God has designed human beings as men and women to complement each other and marriage is the primary institution that unites both men and women.

In this respect, Stanton and Maier observe that the supporters of gay marriage do not take into account the interdependency between men and women and they believe that gender has nothing to do with marriage (Stanton & Maier, 2010, p. 7). While the supporters of gay marriage stress the freedom of individual choices and the significance of individual human rights, one can never undermine the adverse social and ethical impacts of gay marriage on communities.

The rights of homosexuals should be recognized whereas gay marriage should be wiped out for the common good of society. There is no doubt that the family as the most powerful institution that molds societies and nations would cease to exist once gay marriage is promoted. Similarly, gay marriage is against the natural order of the universe as homosexuality never yields any fruits in terms of procreation. Read More
