Anitcipatd academic area of study and NYU college - Admission/Application Essay Example

One of the most important decisions in a person’s life is deciding which to attend and what academic program to pursue. For me this decision was simple because the career that I choose is something that I have always been very passionate about. The school that I choose to apply is New York University (NYU). NYU is one of the most prestigious universities in the world with a rich history of over 175 years serving the community (Nyu). The campus and curriculum that I choose was the Leonard N. Stern School of Business.

I want to study business administration with a concentration in finance. I have always been a fanatic of business and finance. I have spent countless hours doing research on the internet and at my local library learning about finance. My interest in finance increased after the start of the global recession in 2008. I realized then that I could make a difference in this world by pursuing a career in finance. A career in finance can be very rewarding. The starting salary for a person that studies corporate finance ranges between $35,000 and $50,000 (Careers-in-finance).

The income I can generate working in the financial field would enable me to support myself and my family. So far through my self-education initiates I have learn the basics about finance including concepts such as financial statements, time value of money, and valuation of corporate bonds. I learned that the use of technology can help people in finance in their problem solving process. I own a financial calculator and often used excel to solve financial problems. I have learned a little about finance on my own, but there is so much more for me to learn.

NYU has a diverse group of faculty members that have tremendous credentials. Getting a change to learn from these professors will be an honor for me. I have used my basic knowledge of finance in my life to improve my management of my personal finances. I keep a weekly budget on excel that describes my income and expenses by category. Personal finance can be defined as the application of financial principles to the financial decisions made by a family unit or an individual (Kilela). In the finance field there are several certifications that can enhance your skills and abilities.

A finance certification that I am interested in pursuing once I graduate from NYU is to become a certified financial planner. Once I become a professional in the field of finance I can use my knowledge to help families to better deal with their finances. I am also very interested in corporate finances. Companies rely on the advice of its financial officers in order to make operating decisions. “Every decision made by a business has financial implications…” (Nyu). I am very eager to start my educational journey at New York University.

I realize that it is going to take a lot of hard work and dedication to succeed as a student at NYU. I am ready for the challenge of becoming a member of the NYU student alumni.
