Android “Android is a software stack for mobile devices that includes an operating system, middleware and key applications” (Android Devlopers, . This paper is going to elaborate on the features of Android OS along with an account of a cell phone that works with Android. Android is the new operating system that is coming with smartphones. Compared to other operating systems like Symbian, Windows Mobile, and BlackBerry, this OS is much more attractive, user-empowering, and interesting. Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 works with Android and this OS is what makes this cell phone one of the most interesting smartphones that have touched the market lately.

You can call it a mini-computer. Android gives this phone four home screens which the user can arrange according to his will. You can put the widgets and icons on all home screens. The widgets and applications can be downloaded from the Android market that comes with the OS. You just need GPRS or a wifi and can start downloading thousands of applications. You can run multiple applications all at the same time which you cannot do in iPhone. If we compare it to iPhone OS, then the limitations in Android include lack of multi-touch gestures and the polished interface.

Also, since Android makes it possible for the user to run multiple applications simultaneously, the smartphone ends up using lot of battery power so you have to charge the cell phone once or twice a day. Also, sometimes the OS hangs up when you try to multitask, so you have to turn it off and then restart. These are the features that I myself experienced with the mentioned cell phone. To conclude, Android is the OS that keeps the user engaged with the phone the whole day long because of its interesting applications and interface.
