Teacher’s Change The U.S into a Utopia. What Changes would you make and why? Utopia means a where everything is perfect and ideal, in terms of law and politics and people are content and happy as a clam. The concept sure sounds amazing and out of this world, its practical implications are far from real. For United States of America to be a utopia, changes required will not involve a particular area or field of life only. The changes will sound drastic and the image of the society might look like a fantasy fairy tale.

A utopian USA will be the one derived from its very basic constitution, the one that ensures preservation of life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. Since USA plays central role in world politics and is the center of international trade and economy, utopian USA should be free from racial or religious discriminations. Educating youth is the best step that can be taken to make USA a utopian state. The awareness and standard of education will have to be raised as violence and drug abuse have been increasing among the students at an alarming rate.

The post 9/11 USA has become a far fetched reality than what its founding father's wanted it to be. The event was a turning point in the American foreign policy. The enforcement of the ‘Patriot Act’ held deep impacts on the civil liberties of common Americans, especially the ones belonging to ethnic and religious minorities. Racial targeting became common and people had to change or 'blend in' in order to be not picked upon. It is critical enough for US to come close to being a perfect nation as it consists of almost whole of North America.

The State department though, has made significant measures to bridge the gap, by promoting cultural exchange programs across the US, by encouraging American families to host foreign students mainly from the Middle East so as to remove the stereotypes from both sides and paint a different picture altogether. Puritans laid the base of education by forming the first formal school in 1635 and were the first to write books for children. The country advanced intellectually. Four years later, the first American College was established; Harvard in Cambridge.

The founding fathers put a great importance upon education and left behind some of the greatest universities in the American Legacy. Recently drop out rates have been quite a concern in the United States. The education rate has been growing, but at a much slower rate than in 1980's. Violence and drug usage are major problems the high schools (Lowry et al 1999) . Public schools usually attract more drugs and violence related problems. Due to the economic recession of 2008, paychecks and funding cuts have put the education on higher level of crises.

For the betterment of the educational system different reforms have been sought. Resource based type of reform includes new textbooks, wiring schools for internet access, updating school faculties and buildings, and decreasing class size. Where as incentive based reforms allow parents to choose the school for their children. Schools will respond to competition by providing a higher quality education. Whether it is resource or incentive based reform; one thing is certain educational reform is needed greatly in the United States.

If the issue is not addressed properly, the problems will keep increasing and eventually the children will become a lost cause and once again far from the path that our founding father's had dreamt for us.
