Teaching skill shortages in Australia have arisen due to many different reasons including changes in technology and interest or attitude of students towards teaching as a profession itself. Changes in technology have greatly affected the education sector with most of the trained teachers leaving the profession to join other professions hence causing shortages in the sector. Most graduates who have trained as teachers have joined freelance employments such as online academic writing and research writing that are flexible and less restrictive in terms of qualification and experience and also pay well as compared to teaching. New candidates joining the universities have also shied away from the profession as a result of technology. Although introduction of new technology and changes in the existing ones due to changes in industries in the country have contributed to shortages in teaching skills, changes in attitudes of the students towards teaching have been cited as the main cause of the shortages. ...

Through its leadership, the trade unions engage in negotiations with the employers on behalf of the employees a process known as collective bargaining. The trade unions are therefore an important aspect of the business world as they ensure that there are smooth relationships between employers and employees which in turn creates a harmonious working environment which ensures the smooth sailing of the business activities.
The causes of such rapid decline are multifaceted and complex and have resulted in a plethora of literature debating such issues (Waddoup, 2005; Burgess, Mitchell & Preston, 2003; Peetz, 1998). Some of the factors evident for the decline include changes in workforce practices, increasing market competition, escalating inequalities, new and ever progressing technologies and globalisation.

This causes many problems in the economy such as lower standards of living, higher costs on government, low morale, recession, and often leads to crime. This is an exceptionally worrisome and enhanced situation when there are no jobs available for skilled and educated workers, as it causes extremely low morale for these people who are forced to do jobs below their potential.
These are the problems of unemployment, especially structural unemployment caused by obsolete skills. These problems are extremely detrimental to the standard of living in the country. Also, it takes up significant resources for the government to help make such conditions less difficult for the people.
Up till now, there is still a dearth of academic research that trade unions could consult or make use of to guide them in their attempts to achieve effective and successful outcomes (Martin et al. 1999). Through dramatically enriching this area of research and through motivating research of a fine quality in both processes and relevance, this paper presents union leaders with analysis and information to somehow assist them in their present organizing attempts, simultaneously, constructs the groundwork for future research.
