?Dear Sir/Madam, I am writing this application for the Masters Degree in Psychology in which I am quite interested. The continuous sense of innovation is what I found the most fascinating thing about Psychology; analyzing an individual's ostentatious behavior in a scientific way offers me an innovative and contemporaneous perspective about the things around us. I am passionate about understanding the psyche mechanism; how it absorbs the information and interprets this information following certain cognitive processes, ensuing in a behavior that is willed or unwilled. I believe that understanding our own Psychology is the foremost step for comprehending our ability and it is what that forces me to choose Psychology as my future academic stream. My aim is to be recognized as a respected clinical psychologist in my profession life. I would like to have specialization in the following sub-fields; child/adult mental health, emotional disturbances, substance abuse, health psychology and LGBT issues. Along with these specializations, I am also very keen to contribute my efforts in physiological researches. I have been a subject during the physiological researches carried on Temple University but now I am firm to reverse the process and to be counted in those who actually do the researches. I am very ambitious young woman and will try my best efforts to achieve each of aspirations mentioned here. Therefore I would like to gain a deeper theoretical knowledge in psychology and practical skills to evaluate and diagnose symptoms in a clinical context. I believe a University with a high reputation like Leiden University is the best place to achieve my career objectives. I hold a four-year Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Temple University in Pennsylvania. I am confident that the linguistic and educational precis I acquired as well as an extensive scholarly and artistic culture coupled with the knowledge and social skills I acquired during these years will be an important asset for my growth in Psychology field. Furthermore, to be well prepared for this Masters program I have undergone one month practical psychology experience under psychologist Jeanette van Vuurden at Psychiatric Department of Dr. Horacio E. Oduber Hospital in Aruba during the last Christmas vacations. Thus I gained a valuable real time experience in what my professional career depends. I got prepared to assume liaise between patients and their issues for my future encounters. This strengthened my desires to pursue my dreams even more. This opportunity also motivated me to evaluate comprehend issues within the LGBT society. A reasonable amount of patients did not know how to cope with their sexual orientation in a community where being anything other then a heterosexual is still taboo. I tremendously enjoyed my experience because I have had the chance to take part in different aspect of the psychology field, for example, assessing patients and treatments with fellow colleagues, interacting with patients and working in a group made for finding a mutual conclusion “what is best for a patient”. I am a loyal and strong-minded person in all aspects of my life. Having being ill for last year as well as before two years I was absent from the University for the majority during that particular semesters. Nevertheless, I worked hard and educated myself on the majority of the schoolwork, resulted in excellent grades in each subject and in time degree achievement. I would like to include some activities, which have been developed within me during the course of time like an everlasting taste of competitiveness. And I also accentuated my organization skills. At the age of fourteen, I participated in a High School summer abroad program at Phillips Academy. I also attended an Honors Program for High School Students at Boston College at the age of 16. It reveals that from an early age I knew what I wanted to be in future, and started working at it from my childhood days. I also thoroughly enjoy working with others whether it is working with animals, kids or adults. One of the most memorable experiences was when I volunteered last year at the Philadelphia Marathon as a support person at the finish line. All I saw was the ache and misery various competitors had in their eyes struggling to get across the finish line and all I could do was to encourage and assure them that they can do it. The incentive came as soon as they thanked me for giving them the ‘strength’ to finish the race. That was the most gratifying sensation I have ever felt. Of an incomparable motivation, I strongly imply myself in my academic and professional activities to carry out my objectives. My international experiences speak for my integral and adaptable competence. I have had the pleasure to meet different cultures that affirms my intrapersonal ease during my lifetime. Open to others, speaking 3 foreign languages in addition to my mother tongue (English, Dutch, and Spanish), while also being able to understand German and Portuguese, I have a very strong aspiration to pursue a career in Clinical Psychology. In fact, it reflects my thriving on a personal level as well as professional. The ambitions, which I have just represented before you, couldn’t come true without a continuous theoretical background and a strong real world experience especially in this field. I am deeply assure that the Psychology program that Leiden University offers is the best way for concretizing my future because of its international orientation. The achievement of this Masters Degree in this University will be a tremendous catalyst for my professional future and will provide me the comprehension, assurance, and experience to fulfill my dreams. Additionally, the courses this program is integrated with complement my professional aspirations exceptionally. These courses will broaden my knowledge, satisfy my curiosity and deepen my understanding; I am so determined and considerate and will be highly motivated if given the chance. I am looking forward to face the challenge associated with this incredible and challenging Masters program. I believe that I encompass all the fundamental attributes required to qualify for this program. Thank you very much for considering my request. I am looking for your positive response. Sincerely yours, Read More
