An Exploration of My Career Choice Dentist Choosing a career path is an important and crucial decision one has to make in their life as this decision would be responsible for shaping out their future. As of today there are several bright opportunities available to select from and dentistry is a one good option among them. A career in dentistry is promising and has a bright future. Qualifying as a dentist is a matter of pride and prestige as dentists are well respected among the community due to their community services.

Being a dentist is matter of pride and prestige. Everyone knows the hard work and the immense dedication required to qualify as a dentist and is therefore respected by the community (Rogers 1). Dentists are skilled professionals and they contribute to the well being of the society as well. Many dentists also provide free service to the needy poor people showing the humble feelings engraved in their mind during their education. Another advantage of being a dentist is that dentists do not have to work under some other person and they can be their own boss.

Since they are self employed they can easily manage and balance their professional and personal lives in a proper manner. Dentists would be in big demand in the coming future mainly because of the modern and stressed lifestyles of the individuals. People would need dentists to maintain their oral hygiene and for keeping their teeth free from dieses in order to avoid any dental problem in the future. As per the information available on the website of world dental federation, there are approximately 1,36,000 dentists working in USA and the demand for them, would only increase as the number of oral problems in the younger generation is the highest among the developed world.

Dentistry is a profession which is changing and evolving rapidly. Dentists are required to treat patients with a variety of dental issues like teeth scaling, gum dieses, filling and many more. Their main area of diagnoses is treating problems related to teeth, gingival tissue, tongue, lips and jaw. There are all together nine recognized fields in dentistry and all of them have huge growth potentials for the dentists. Modern day dentistry fields also include esthetic improvements which are done by using a wide variety of cosmetic dental procedures.

Such treatments help the patients to improve their smile and facial looks. Another new and popular field is the surgical restoration field which is required for restores, repair and maintenance of teeth, gums and other oral tissues which were damaged due to an accident or some kind of dieses. Such surgeries are also performed for dental implants, tissue grafts and laser surgery (Rogers 2). Although there are lots of other lucrative career fields but being a dentist gives an immense amount of personal satisfaction and pride.

Besides earning good money and respect, dentists can help the community and teach good habit to the people related to their dental hygiene and oral health care needs. There is no doubt that career as dentist is rewarding and fulfilling. Serving people is indeed matter of pride and inner satisfaction which only few other professions can match. Choosing dentistry is indeed a good option. Works Citied 1. Rogers, Carla S. How to Get the Right Dental School. Chicago: VGM Career Horizons, 1998. Print. 2. Kendall, Bonnie.
