If Yes, How Can Evil Exist There are many reasons to believe in the existence of a supreme being. Below are some of the main grounds to believe in the existence of a supreme being.
There is movement in the universe because an object cannot move itself. Hence, someone or something had to initiate the movement. This can either be achieved by external or outside forces that initiate the movement of the object (Protestantism 1). Once an individual accepts this reality, he or she has declared into the equation the presence of an external, supernatural being that is the "Prime Mover". With regards to cosmological arguments, the argument reasons that, for every effect, there is a reason behind it or cause (Protestantism 1). This argument goes back to Aristotle and Plato. It is derived from common sense and the scientific study that the expansion of the universe, origin of the universe, origin of consciousness, and origin of life are all "effects" and these come from a unique source. Such a source of necessity has to be outside nature. Hence, it would be supernatural (Protestantism 1). Also, with regards to the argument of design, aspects of the argument were inspired by Aristotle and Plato (O'Neill 110). It was adapted by Christian philosophers Augustine and Thomas Aquinas. The design argument argues that there is an observable design or order in the universe even though the design is not always flawless or perfect. The existence of such design confirms the existence of a Designer such as a supreme being. ...
