Taking an in compatibilist position, libertarianism debates that free will does not synchronize well with a deterministic universe because people have a free will and as such there is falsehood in determinism.
b) Hard determinism. It is a concept of free will that claims that determinism is true and that it is not in line with free will, thereby making free will inexistence. It differs profoundly from soft determinism since soft determinism believes that free will may exist even despite determinism. This philosophy differs with metaphysical libertarianism, which claims that free will exists and falsifies determinism. c) Compatibilism. Often referred as soft determinism, Compatibilism is a philosophy which states that free will and determinism are agreeable ideas, and it is possible to for them to be consistent only if one believes in them. Compatibilists describe free will as being able to do anything one would like to do without interference by any other individual. It was coined by Medieval Greek and modern philosophers such as Hobbes and Hume. They argued that determinism is necessary for free will to be realized. They believed that an agent’s action should be commensurate to his or her moral beliefs. This stand was quite similar to the one or hard determinists since they both understand that people’s actions are usually influenced by their moral standards. ...
