The Art of Happiness Instructor: Course: Date: Question # 1 The Dalai Lama argues that an individual needs to cultivate value within self through discipline and patience (Sequel, 2003:67). This is through the cultivation of values and qualities that are within self.


This is because a nation cannot achieve its economic goals all at once hence needs to wait patiently for the economic growth. On the other hand, the rich Western countries have the self-discipline to work hard and achieve what they have economically. Additionally, they have the discipline to invest wisely. Question # 2 Dalai Lama believes that culture is an aspect of holiness and helps in the promotion of peace throughout the world (Sequel, 2003:45). Moreover, culture helps put a smile in the faces of people. However, each culture is unique and so are its practices. For example, the Hawaiian culture has a connection to the sea, which helps in the preservation of the environment. The Tibetan culture also has its connection to the environment. Consequently, these cultural heritages need to be guarded because they help in the maintenance of the environment. Additionally, cultural heritage enables the gradual development of the lives of people especially within small communities. However, it was possible to keep cultures on because people considered them apart of holiness. On the other hand, people today consider culture as a negative development, especially with the technology. As a result, cultural heritage is significant and needs to be guarded. Question # 3 According to Dalai Lama, there are much news heard about war, violence and disaster from the Middle East (Sequel, 2003:34). ...
