To achieve this objective, the researchers examine the literature on gender disparity and bias in workplaces and review literature on stranger-to-stranger studies being relevant to meso-level discrimination. The literature review indicated considerable discrepancies in promotions and pay rates between men and women, the latter being disadvantaged. While in both cases an incremental observation would be made, the rates stand higher for men than women. This review uses the term social glass ceiling to explain the socio-cultural factors such as family-related demands that impede women’s advancement.

Prescriptive stereotyping has been observed where women would be prejudiced more than men based on their social roles. Finally, the article observes that sexual harassment has been propagated majorly by men seeking to improve their status in their social networks or to penalize women threatening their privilege and power at work. In their conclusion, the researchers observe that broadly considered, socialization forces like gender roles play a role but do not largely influence gender bias in workplaces.

The researchers encourage further research with a shift of focus towards real organizations so as to support the inference of the already documented psychological phenomena that articulates the different employment experiences between men and women, with women being constantly disadvantaged. They pose a question for readers to brainstorm whether indeed prejudice and discrimination have propagated this workplace bias. The choice of this article was informed by the fact that workplaces have been among the common venues where women would be abused, a fact that this article evaluates.

It gives insights into the reasons that women would be targets for abuse in workplaces, shifting away from social contexts which have been widely studied. Borrowing from various secondary sources also makes it rich in resourceful information on women's abuse. The article is not all that simple to understand because it is heavily worded with no figures to help deliver the information. The structure adopted could also make the reader lose track as the researchers do not organize the article in the normal format used in scholarly articles.

Generally, the information has been disseminated using complex language that would not be easily understood by readers with low English proficiency. Nonetheless, the reader gets to pick key details contained in the literature review. From this article, I got enlightened that while I thought women are fast rising in power in workplaces, men are likewise disproportionately rising, with men being favored more. Men would sexually harass women in workplaces so as to protect their power and privileges and also to guard their social status among other men.

This is therefore an important article when considering the reasons for women's abuse in workplaces.
