Question 1 Accommodating The first conflict style that is presented in this film is accommodating. This is where a person finds out about the wrong things that they have done and in turn decides to change the course of actions that he has been doing. In this type of conflict style, a person knows that the thing he or she is doing is wrong but still does it in order to please others (Johnson, 2009). In the film damaged, Dr Peeno is hired by a profit making healthcare and as she is on duty she approves extraordinary expenditures that she knows are wrong but still does so since she has to please her employers and avoid being fired. As a result, she has to watch one of the patients die due to her actions. She does her actions even though she knows that it will lead to the death of the patient but she still has to do it in order for the employers to be happy with her. This is a kind of accommodation conflict style since the doctor knows that what she is doing is wrong but still does it in order to please her supervisors. This is one of the conflict styles present in the film (Damaged care, 2002). Question 2 Avoiding This is a kind of conflict style in which one knows that something is bad and as a result keeps off it in order to do what is morally upright. After her resignation at the profit making health care organization and after watching someone die due to her mistakes, Dr Peeno decides to join the nonprofit oriented HMO (Johnson, 2009). This she does hoping that this time she would be able to make up for the bad things that happened at her previous work. However during her time at the new place of work, soon new containment procedures for cost are introduced at the firm. She knows that this is wrong and does not want anything to do with it. As a result of these cost containment, she decides to resign from her work. This is one example of an avoiding conflict style (Damaged care, 2002). Expert This is a type of individual power that one gains in a particular place due to her professional abilities. It is mainly gained by people who are experts in specific fields. Dr. Peeno is a qualified doctor and because of this, most organizations need her support. During her first employment in the film, she is hired to approve request from physician. If she is not an expert in the medical field then she cannot be given such a challenging fact. It is for the same reason that despite her resignation, she still gets employed at the HMO where she later resigns again (Johnson, 2009). This shows that she is an expert in her field and that this is a known fact even by her employers. After she moves to court, she is able to express her ideas in a manner that surges that she is qualified. It shows that she has knowledge in the medical field and knows what ought to be done and what should not be done. It is because of her expertise that she is able to participate in interviews that are related to hr field. She is able to stand in front of the entire world and give out her views about what she feels is wrong (Gantzias, 2005). Reward This is the kind of individual power where an individual is given responsibility due to the fact that other staff members and people around this person feels that she is the right kind of person for this particular work. In this work Dr Peeno is given this power by the people around her when she is chosen to be interviewed. She is the one who is given the chance by her fellow workmates to go and speak out about what is happening. This shows that she is the right person for this kind of job and this is the reason why she is chosen to undertake this challenging task. It is for this reason that she also comes out instead of the rest. She goes to television interviews and speaks out what she feels is the right thing. Due to this she has the individual power of reward that is given to her by the people around her. Question 3 Humana is characterized by the head and neck pathology seen in the organization. This is because of the structure of the organization that takes the structure of the functions of the humana head and neck. This type of pathology is most common in most organizations that are stating. Brother’s healthcare on the other hand is characterized by the human pathology. This is the type of pathology that is similar to the structure of the human body (Baldwin, 2012). This is the most common type of pathology and is always seen in many organizations including Kaiser Call in Atlanta. This organization exhibits the neck and head pathology as well as the human pathology. It therefore has to types of pathologies that work together to realize the goals. Beaumont hospital has very similar characteristics with two pathologies. First is the human pathology. This is because the organization is placed in such a way that the manager acts like the human brain does to the rest of the body. The rest of the organization either depends on the manager directly or indirectly. The other pathology that is seen in the organization is the head and neck (Damaged care, 2002). Question 4 The other thing that is in the book and the movie is the ethics and social responsibility of management. As a manager, it is important to always have in mind the social issues that affect people. Managers have to make sound decisions which will have positive impact on the people and not decisions that will affect people negatively. In the film, dry peen is faced with lots of situations under which she has to make sound decisions that will have a positive impact on the people around her. First off all, she is forced to resign after having to watch a person die due to her wrong mistakes. She is forced to move on to a nether organization that does not pay much but do what she feel is right to the society. however when she notices that this organization is also changing, she resigns once again and is forced to start talking about the inhuman things that people are doing in the medical field (Miracle, 2001). This is a very important issue that is seen in the book and is also relevant in this film. Infect the whole movie revolves around sound decision making of someone who has been given the responsibility to do so by an organization or firm. It is due to her firm stand in what she thinks is morally right that Dr Peeno soon moves to court to help protect people from what she feels is wrong by the people she has worked for. She does not do this to get any reward rather she does this to protect the society.
