Academic success however happens only on merit, meaning that students are required to put up an impressive academic performance that is measured according to stipulated standards defined by their various institutions. Interestingly though, there is an unparalleled relationship that exists between the assurance of academic performance and student personality. There is literature that has outlined gender difference and spirituality as two of the major factors accounting for the determination of the academic performance of students of any given institution.

The problem however is that there are currently no noted academic institutions anywhere who prescribe different grading systems and academic performance expectations for different students for the same course of study based on their gender or spirituality (quote). The reason why such provisions do not exist could certainly be due to the fact that the institutions have not been convinced by any empirical study to justify the claim that gender differences and spirituality have any relationship with academic performance.

It is against this background that the present study is being conducted to use the collection of primary and secondary data to justify a possible correlation between gender difference, spirituality, and academic performance.According to the World Health Organisation (2012), “Gender refers to the socially constructed roles, behavior, activities, and attributes that a particular society considers appropriate for men and women.” This means that gender does not look at the physical identity of a person as either being a man or a woman.

It is for this reason that the terms males and females are commonly preferred and used by psychologists as these are more generalizing to the roles of the two genders. In relation to the definition of gender, gender difference has to do with the kind of roles, social construction, behavior, and activities that are exhibited in males that are non-parallel to how females will exhibit the same and vice versa.
